They have built a new light rail tunnel from the heart of downtown Seattle that goes 3.1 miles northeast-ish to the University of Washington. This light rail link is scheduled to open early in 2016.

Awesome! I travel yearly to UWMC and generally take the Light Rail from Seatac to down town then bus to the University. It'll be great to be able to take the Light Rail all the way.

I sometimes take a cab but its about 30 to 35 bucks one way.

Yeah it is pretty cool. Hard to imagine UW to downtown just like that. I bet some of the businesses in the U. District are nervous... the college kids can go party in Pioneer Square, Belltown, or Capitol Hill pretty easily now, no DUI-ving required.
