Health Insurance Marketplace Special Enrollment Period for Tax Filers

Are you subject to the fee for not having coverage in 2014? You may still be able to enroll in 2015 coverage if:

• You didn't know until after Open Enrollment ended on February 15, 2015 that the health care law required you and your household to have health coverage, or you didn’t understand how the requirement would impact you and your household

• You are subject to the fee for not having coverage in 2014

• You aren’t already enrolled in 2015 coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace

If all of these apply to you, you can enroll in a 2015 plan between March 15 and April 30, 2015.

You may apply online at Healthcare.gov, by calling the federal call center at 1-800-318-2596, or with an assistor at oneHealth in the V.A. building at 210 South Winchester in Miles City. You can reach us at 874-8700.

After February 15, 2015, you can enroll in a 2015 insurance plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace only if you have a life event that qualifies you for a Special Enrollment Period. You must apply within 60 days of the event.

Life events that may qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period:

• Getting married

• Having a baby

• Adopting a child or placing a child for adoption or foster care

• Losing other health coverage
(Lost, quit, or changed a job that provided health insurance, COBRA ended, lost coverage through divorce, found ineligible for Medicaid, etc. You can’t intentionally drop your private insurance or COBRA outside open enrollment and get a special enrollment period, but you can drop them and enroll in a Marketplace plan with Tax Credits during the annual open enrollment period.)

• Permanently moving outside your plan’s coverage area

• Gaining citizenship or lawful presence in the U.S.

• Gaining or continuing status as a member of an Indian tribe or an Alaska Native shareholder. Members of federally recognized Indian tribes and Alaska native shareholders can sign up for or change plans once per month throughout the year.

• Leaving incarceration

• For people already enrolled in Marketplace coverage: Having a change in income or household status that affects eligibility for premium tax credits or cost-sharing reductions
