My thoughts on tonight's game: Sidney has slightly more to gain and a lot more to lose than the Cowboys tonight. If the Eagles win, they'll get the top seed from the Eastern 'A' and will have a bye week before hosting a quarterfinal playoff game. If they lose, their season will be over.

The Cowboys have clenched a playoff berth. With a win, Miles City will earn the Eastern 'A's second seed and will host Havre, the third-seed from the Central 'A'. With a loss, the Cowboys will be the third seed from the East and will travel to Lewistown, the second-seeded team in the Central.

While the Cowboys would be favored in either game, their road through the playoffs would be easier should they be the second seed. They would host a first round game and then would travel to Whitefish to face the Northwestern 'A' champion Bulldogs. The winner of that game will be on track to have homefield advantage throughout the playoffs (unless Miles City faces Billings Central again). The Cowboys would be on the road until the chipper if they place third in the East.

Statistically, the Cowboys should be considered the better team when compared to the Eagles, but Sidney will be at home and gunning for revenge for last year's season-ending loss at Miles City. The Cowboys have the more productive and better-balanced offense and do not give up many yards on defense. I think it will be a close, hard-fought game, but I think the Cowboys' horses are better and more numerous than those of the Eagles. Give me the Haughians, Blunt, Burk, Keith, & Co. over the Joneses, Coffman, Thiel and Johnson.

My prediction: Cowboys 28, Sidney 15.

Looks like you were about right on the margin of victory - I saw in the Gazette tonight the Cowboys won 20-7. Well done! Havre next?

Great as usual, Brian.
Do the playoffs begin this weekend? If When the Pokes beat the Ponies, will they play Whitefish the following weekend?

Yes the playoffs begin this weekend and the Cowboys will face the Havre Blue Ponies at Denton at 12 pm. When they win they will advance to play Whitefish.

I'm planning on having some preview stuff this week. I'm just waiting on a couple things. I'll keep everyone posted. I think you'll like it.

The game against Havre is at noon on Saturday. With a win, the Cowboys will advance to play Whitefish. It's a fun 640-mile bus trip. Whitefish is good, but I have to say that I like where the Cowboys are right now in terms of the bracket.

I don't know if 'fun' accurately describes that road trip to whitefish.

I still remember the play that turned the tide. Quick slant pass across the middle, tipped by the receiver and returned deep by whitefish. And the ride back did suck, particularly if you didn't/wouldn't sleep. There's not much good that can happen at 3 AM when all you've got to relieve your boredom is a roll of athletic tape and potential victims everywhere you look.

John, I don't suppose you remember 'Mastur-gate' and some of the other altercations that took place on the way there?
