I'm from Glendive and was told by a Dr. here that I have CMC of the thumb of my right hand (what ever this means, didn't understand). Suggested I see DR. Brooks in Miles City, don't know anything about him Can anyone tell me if he does this treatment or surgery often, is he a good Dr.?

I know of several people that have gone to him in recent years that had problems after surgery and ended up going to Billings to different doctors. I personally saw him years ago and was not at all impressed. He ordered a full body scan for a sore thumb. Needless to say I found a different doctor.

I went to Dr. Brooks about a finger injury and found him to be very informative. A simple xray in the office to look at it..and, I had choices. Also, he did hip surgery on my 92 year old Mother and it was excellent. I also have friends who have had him repair their knees and they swear by him. Also, a very nice person.

I love Dr. Brook. He did an awesome job on my wrist, and will be doing my knees next month. He is very informative, and takes the time to explain things to you. He lets you decide on your treatment, and his staff is wonderful.

I highly recommend!

Dr. Brooke is the best around. He operated on both of my shoulders for rotator cuff tears.

We took my daughter to Dr. Brooke with a very complicated elbow fracture which he had to perform surgery on and follow up with a long recovery. After recovery she had lost some rotation in her wrist, and we decided to take her to the Shriners hospital in Spokane for an additional opinion. The team of specialists there praised Dr. Brooke effusively, and said that for that type of injury she had had an incredible outcome. They bade my daughter to "go home and have a good life"-which she has!

FWIW, I had a good experience with Dr. Brooks. He did a nice job with my knee.

He did a better job than surgeons I've had in Dakota.

Your mileage may vary.

Thank you all for the information. I can now go back to Glendive and make my decision.

If you haven't met him already perhaps you should schedule an initial consultation appointment with Dr. Brooke. Have him review your records and ask him what options you have. If he feels that surgery is the best option then ask him about his experience performing that surgical procedure. How many times has he done it? Has he ever had any negative outcomes? (If so, can he elaborate?) What are some of the potential risks/complications of the surgery? Does he see any special circumstances that make your surgery more risky than the average? What does the surgery entail? Inpatient or outpatient procedure? What will the recovery process be like? Does he accept your medical insurance and what will your out-of-pocket expenses be?

Give him a chance and if you don't like his bedside manner or feel confident in his experience with this type of surgery you can ask your primary care doctor if they could recommend someone else. Presumably your doctor has some measure of confidence in Dr. Brooke or hopefully s/he wouldn't have recommended him.

Good luck.

Hello Linda-I just wanted to add that 2 of my family members and I have had surgery with Dr. Brooke and we all did fantastic and were very pleased with him every step of the way.

You are always going to hear negative in a smaller town with no other orthopedic surgeon's..... especially with Billings a few hours away with a variety of amazing Doctors to offer. Ortho Montana is wonderful too, and many have surgeon's that specialize more with the hand area.

I just wanted to let you know that my family all had wonderful outcomes with Dr. Brooke. It is always nice being closer to home!
