Removal of coach from MC Baseball Association
Posted by Diesel (+182) 9 years ago
This year the boys in baseball played well, but I believe there was an aweful display of what not to show our children how to act and behave when it comes to sports. I and many parents have observed the coach Kevin yell profanities and cuss at the children on his team (bringing them to tears), the umpires who sacrifice their evenings and weekends to ump the tournaments, and other coaches. This man has continually done this since the beginning of the year and has caused many parents to already be calling regarding next year stating their children will not play if they are placed on his team, and a possible decision might be made for all parents to pull their children from the Allstars if things are not done. This man is not only allowed to get away with this, but is on the Baseball board. I vote and I hope others that have seen his horrible attitude and violent behavior towards our children to speak up and let the baseball association know this man needs to be removed from the sport all together as this is unexcusable behavior and our children should not and will not be subjected to it.

I don't get why they let him coach he's a registered sex offender

He sounds like the old traditional coaches of 30 years ago.

But it is not 30 years ago. Can we get a response from the baseball association?

One of the coaches of a youth baseball team is a registered sex offender?

This is a fact and not a product of the MC rumor mill?

If true, is this a 17 yr old sexing up his 16yr old girlfriend type, or a trench coat and tissue box type of sex offender?

Ya it would b nice to hear from them. Seems they ain't got much of a leg to stand on letting a mult. felon coach kids when the next felon comes a long and wants 2 coach. Thought kid sports went to back ground checks.

Dangerous to accuse someone of being a sex offender if not true. If not true that post needs deleted. If it is true, typically there are contact limitations that could, repeat could, prohibit being around minors. In the interest of safety, not rumor, someone local should check that out.

Have you approached the coach about his behavior? Do you know for a fact that he is a sexual predator? They do have all the offenders on one site so it could be that he isn't a sexual offender! Ranting on milescity.com is just going to start a bunch of drama that will go nowhere! If you have gone to the coach and nothing was changed then go to the board! If you visit the website for miles city youth baseball the board members are listed! There are better ways of dealing with this other than social media! In no way am I ok with bad behavior but I do believe there is proper way of dealing with these issues, first being talking to the coach face to face!

Here are some facts that seem to be missing.
This coach has gone through appropriate background checks and been cleared to coach.
This coach has been coaching in the MCYBA for years.
This coach was convicted 22 years ago and has no limitations regarding kids.(It wasn't the creepy-trench coat type of offense)
This coach has coached All-Stars for 3 years with no problems.
This coach has a knowledge and passion for the sport.
This coach has been one of my son's favorite coaches.
This coach makes mistakes like everyone else.
Most important fact, to quote my son "Why do adults want to mess everything up. Don't they know that kids just want to play ball".

My 2 sons played on Mr. Wilcox’s team this year and he did an excellent job coaching them. He’s very passionate (yes sometimes that means yelling), but cares deeply about the game & more importantly about teaching it to the kids the way it should be played. Mid- season, my younger son one day told me, “Dad sometimes Kevin yells at me. “ I asked what about? He responded “if I’m out of position or throw to the wrong spot, he’ll yell what to”. I asked what he thought about that. He responded, “it surprised me, but, it makes me want to try harder & play better.” I thought Perfect!!

I attended almost every game Kevin coached this year & did not witness any of the items that “Diesel” mentions. I also coached minor league baseball this year, and anyone who’s ever coached realizes you sometimes have to yell to get your point across.

The major’s championship game this year featured 2 great teams & 4 great & passionate coaches (Kevin Wilcox & Craig Muri for the Dodgers & Ray Christopherson & Keith Polesky for the Yankees). At one point during the game Kevin got into a heated discussion with his co-coach. He used an expletive during the discussion which was overheard by some players & fans. He has since apologized & I’m sure learned from it and almost everybody has moved on.

Kevin has coached my kids for at least 4 seasons of baseball. In my opinion, he is one of the best coaches at that level. He volunteers his time, as all coaches do, but does not have kids in the program. This takes a special commitment as anyone who has tried to recruit coaches knows. It’s very hard to get parents to volunteer as coaches let alone someone who doesn’t have kids in the program.

I support Kevin 100%.

Sincerely,
Pat Cline

My son played for the Dodgers this season...and in that time has been given the chance to learn to pitch (something he has always wanted to do. Both of his coaches have taught him respect for the game and his team mates. I just asked my child while reading this post if his coach yelled and screamed cuss words at practice to him or any of his team mates, his response "no why would he". My question for Diesel have you had a meeting with this coach one on one or with any of the coaches? I witnessed his behavior and didn't see who it was towards, but knew he didn't like the call. Mistakes happen, I also witnessed the apology and it was sincere and I feel he meant it. About the other topic...I never felt my child was unsafe around this coach.
Diesel do you volunteer as a coach for any of our youth sports? I'm pretty sure its not any easy task. Have you ever lashed out on the TV while watching a football or baseball games?
Life goes on, no it wasn't right, however I'm sure not everyone is pure innocent..
I support Kevin 100% too.

Thank you all for your info. I believe it would be best to contact the State Baseball Ass. and that way the proper people can handle this. I contacted the Webmaster this morning to remove the post, but he didn't so if someone knows how to remove the post please let me know, or if they know how to notify the webmaster to remove it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Amorette, I was thinking the same thing! See "Jimmie", you don't have the facts or choose to ignore them for the sake of creating problems. Maybe Diesel did have a question/perceived problem, but you just dumped gas on the fire.

Kevin is a great person, good father, and deserves respect as a person and member of the community. He has stepped up to support the kids of MC by being a coach, and deserves recognition for that.

I would also like to point out a few more facts on behalf of Kevin .....Kevin is the reason why my son lives and dies for baseball! Come baseball season my son waits by the phone to see if HE made it on Kevin Wilcox's team.....Kevin volunteer s his time and even uses his vacation time to COACH KIDS! The dedication and passion Kevin brings to the game is the reason why most of these KIDS still play BASEBALL! Diesel and Jimmie go pick on someone else !

If and when you go to the Baseball Association...PLEASE make note that parents of the past years and this year will possibly questioned about this individual....I know I for one will support Kevin...
Also remember when you start something publicly you know the facts and not just blowing smoke...
There's a place and a time to voice opinions and I hope you have learned this isn't the place...
Maybe an apology made to Kevin is in order from some people...AFTER ALL what did this post teach our youth...
Nobody is perfect...something to think about

Kevin at times might sound a little rough. I've worked with Kevin and I can promise you this he is very passionate about Miles City and the youths of MIles City. He loves kids and wants them to be as good as they can be. I think he does a great job of coaching our youth. We should feel very lucky that he is here.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions on both sides, I have heard multiple opinions for both sides, and like I said I have asked for this post to be removed as I was looking to see opinions of people and some options that could be taken to look into the situation. Thank you for your help everyone and hopefully the webmaster will remove today as I have asked a few times now.

Really...looking for options to look into the situation?
Well, I looked at your post as some one who was angry at the time for a mistake made by a coach and wanted to embarrass him...as a parent we know what channels to go thru to get our opinions heard and it sure isnt social media...its walking up to the person you have the problem with, if that doesn't work u move your way up the ladder...if you already had opinions from pepple WHY would you start something on here. And now why do you want it removed? Did you realize that people make mistakes and posting things on a social network can cause some reaction...including things that cause hurt...
I am sorry that your upset about the way OUR COACH acted, however this post did nothing but make a bad taste for some people.
I would also like to see it removed, not because of you "looking for options" but because it opened some topics that have been dealt with and are over...

Peace,
Destiny Hardy Carlson

Don't tell me I don't have the facts I didn't say nothin that wasn't fact. He's a mult. felon if baseball doesn't care that's ther choice but people have the right to wonder about it. What about the next one that comes a long and wants to coach? People have the right to say facts that's not pickin on the man. Now I know no one cares so enough said

1. Not all felons are bad people.
2. He made a mistake and paid for it.
3. He apologized for yelling and cursing.

Not every person on the offenders list is a kiddie perv. Sounds like this guy is a good coach and the kids love him.

Someone a should apologize to this guy for this entire thread.

Did he pay whatever debt the courts deemed that he owed? I believe that he has, and furthermore, from the testimony of others presented here, it would appear that he's spent his time since making Miles City a better place. What more do you want?

I suppose we could go back to the old (nobody loses and everyone gets ice cream cones after the game) days. I think the kids would get a lot more out of sports if parents weren't aloud to watch.

For the record, I am not "Jimmie" and do not know "Jimmie." Due to my occupation, I refrain from contributing to controversial topics on social media.

That said, I stopped by the U12 Majors game in Glendive this morning and watched a few innings. Miles City got off to a great start with an impressive hitting show. We've got some great talent on that team!

The accusations about and against this coach "Kevin" are so bizarrely different that they cannot all be true.

Deal with personality differences one-on-one. If you choose a public forum as your method to gossip or defame someone, then you are far lower than they will ever be.

There are so many interesting things going on in the Miles City area, and so many wonderful people.

I son played baseball for Coach Kevin and let me tell what he is a great coach and my child learned a lot from him and Craig. i also coached against him and he great sportsmanship. It takes a lot of time to volunteer to be a coach I know from experience and the one thing that makes it hard is the parents. Parents should just watch the game and leave the coaching to the volunteer coachs. I support Kevin who cares about his past WE ALL HAVE SOMETHING TO HIDE he is very good with the kids and knows the game. So I hope that you decide to keep Coach Kevin and Kevin I hope you continue to coach .
