We have dined there many times. We Love everything about it. The food is a step above any place east of Billings. And as time goes on it just keeps getting better. Excellent curteous service. Prices are very reasonable and most dishes have generous portions. What more could we as for. Oh yeah the decor and atmosphere is relaxing and appealing. We look forward to dining there weekly.

Always had great food and service there also. Sad, but Rib and Chop is slacking in my last 3 times there yet no one cares to do anything about it. Mothers day at ribnchop was a nightmare to say the least

Busy holidays, like Mother's Day, are always a bad day for restaurants. I never eat out on holidays.

I had the pleasure of dining at the Rib and Chop last week and the service was excellent. Attentive but not intrusive. The server was very professional even though he was fairly new at the job. The food was fine although I had to send the salad back because it had some old wilted leaves. I had halibut which was cooked perfectly. It's nice to go somewhere that has vegetables that aren't starchy and white.

I recently had lunch at the Rib and Chop and had an excellent meal with excellent service. We were out on the patio, yet had great attention from our waitperson.

I love the Black Iron Grill also. It's nice to have two good alternatives in restaurants.

I read the first review on this subject and had to leave a comment.
I have tried to give the "Black Iron" several chances to impress me and I just have not been "wowed" at all.
Not saying its the worst...but, to compare it to places in Billings, that is a little overboard.
They are overpriced for the quality of food. It reminds me of a "wanna-be" upgrade restaurant but, just not cuttin' the mustard.
YES, I am so thrilled to have a new and beautiful building in our town, yet, I just can't read this post and not leave a comment.
I tried a COBB salad there with some friends a few weeks ago, we all agreed that RIB and CHOP has them totally beat on this "easy to please" lunch salad.
YES, I will support it and go from time to time, but must say I prefer RIB and CHOP over Black Iron Grill anyday.

We go to both Rib and Chop & Black Iron on weekends. Lunch and dinner.glad to have 2 very good restaurants in town. But on that subject. Breakfast at 600 is our favorite. And Mexico Lindo has some tasty dishes. All in all we have good choices in Miles. We are just missing a good farm to table establishment. Any ideas out there?

Yah, I won't likely go back to the Iron. Like the Chop house though.

While visiting in Miles City recently, I was treated to dinner at the Black Iron Grill. The service was great, we were immediately seated (8 people) and our drink orders taken. Shortly, the waitress took our food orders. We had a variety of dinners and felt that every dinner was very good. The food was hot, freshly cooked and very tasty. The prices were very reasonable for the food.

I travel a lot between Montana and into southern California and feel my meal was as good as any I have had.

We just finished eating at the Black Iron Grill for the second time. Everyone ordered something different, so we have been able to check out seven different entrees so far. Service was great! Food was tasty, served hot and with ample portions. Prices were not outlandish. I will recommend the Black Iron anytime.

My duck breast with huckleberry sauce was fabulous but twelve slightly cooked carrot sticks and two thin slices of radish are not a side of roasted vegetables. I have got to learn never to order any vegetables besides potatoes at a restaurant in Montana.

Had the most amazing meal there with family from Bozeman last night. All was great, service, helpings and the atmosphere. The family from Bozeman said every time their in town they would like to eat there and try different things. We had the ribs, miles city q, ribeye, prime rib, and my daughter had a hot dog and fries (looked like a regular dog but she was happy with it).

Finally I can post a review! My wife and I had dinner there last night and it was excellent. Like Wendy noted earlier, my salad too had wilted Romaine lettuce leaves (but the Caesar salad dressing was perfect) but other than that, everything was fabulous. I had the buffalo tender loin, and it was better than any beef filet mignon I've ever had.

Karen had the bleu cheese burger, and said it was the best bleu cheese burger that she ever had. And she has had a lot of bleu cheese burgers. And my mother can attest, Karen is very picky.

My review was for the Black Iron Grill, Wendy.

However, I can report subsequent to my post, that Karen and I had lunch Saturday afternoon at the Rib and Chop House, and it was excellent as well.

The fact that I could order delicious mussels and fries for lunch in Miles City is pretty damn cool, if you ask me.

5 of us ate at the Black Iron Grill recently while in MC. I requested a grilled cheese which was not on the menu and they kindly made one for me. I love the ambiance but the one thing that was not enjoyable was the fact that we were inundated with flies! They swarmed our food and I observed lots of people trying to kill them with their menus. This made me wonder what was happening in the kitchen. :-(

Flies in a restaurant is a big no-no in my book.

'tis the season for flies, ANYWHERE you go in Miles City. Just a fact and yes it is very annoying.

As for the Black Iron, the Wife and I just went there last weekend and yes, there was a couple of flies. As for the kitchen, we sat in a booth just on the other side of the parition, which is glass and it is very easy to get a good look at the kitchen area. It looked clean to me.

I don't think anything wrong is "happening in the kitchen."

Now, when in Miles City, to keep the flies from buggin ya, just keep a bag of crushed crackers on you, they like those.

I grew up in MC and I am very familiar with the amount of flies and mosquitoes the town can have. I still contend that a restaurant should rid themselves of these unsanitary pests. It's not like we were at a picnic. There is such a thing as health codes. Our server laughed about them when we commented how many there were. I'm not talking about one or two flying around. Virtually the whole restaurant was swatting at them.

Just tell the patrons as they arrive, "Hurry up and get that door shut! You're letting flies in!"

I expect the door was propped open for a bit either to let a breeze in, or possibly to help somebody in with a wheelchair or something, and left open longer than it needed to be...thus letting in a few flies. It only takes one or two to be a real annoyance. We ate at the Airport Inn a week ago and there were a few flies in there too.

I don't care how clean your restaurant is...if you have a door that opens to the outside, the flies are GOING to come in from about July 15 to the middle of September every year. It's a fact of Montana life.

You are probably better off eating off of the floor than eating in a restaurant with a fly problem. Don't take my word for it though.

Yes, a common problem in bars and restaurants this time of year is that some idiot employee (or idiot boss, for that matter, I know one who did this specifically) comes in first thing in the morning to clean, do the books, or whatever, and decides that "hey, its so nice, lets open up all the doors and let some fresh air in here!"

Big mistake. Especially at the Black Iron. My wife and I were seated adjacent to the "patio" (if the outside tables overlooking the Cenex truck stop can be called that), and watched as the patrons outside swatted flies with great abandon. I even speculated that there must be a grease trap outside close by, that brought so many in.

Bottom line, resist the temptation to let fresh air in, in August until the first big frost in October, and let the AC do its job.

Being situated between the Four bees, Gallaghers, and two truck stops where cattle trucks fuel, there is the proper combination of grease and cow poop in the neighborhood that one should expect a couple of flies. Perhaps if they hung bags of water with some pennies on the interstate overpass, the flies would stay on the south side.
