Changes To This Site

The following is a list of updates relevant to MilesCity.com:

CDN - I'm now operating my own geolocated CDN through Azure and have moved most (but not all) of the images on this site to it, so you should get those bits from whatever datacenter is closest to you faster than before.

GeoIP Update - I updated the GeoIP databases to the latest versions, so the location information displayed should be a bit more accurate.

Overall HTML Layout - I updated some of the crusty old HTML code, slightly, so the site should be displaying more consistent across all browsers.

Donations/User Contributions - Many thanks to everyone who has donated and contributed to the site over the years, however it has become necessary to test the advertising route instead. I have removed the donation links. If you currently auto-donate/contribute to the site, please cancel it. Your support has been greatly appreciated and instrumental in keeping everything online over the years. Everyone who has donated/contributed in the past will eventually receive some sort of "pro/premier" type account with extra features (after I figure out what exactly those will be).

Local Advertising - As mentioned, I'm testing advertising as a model to replace donations/contributions. I would encourage you to support the sponsored advertisers of this site, as they are now paying for it to be online. I'll do my best to make sure that the ads are relevant and useful and not intrusive. I'm still getting the entire system online, so there will be a few changes here and there as we go forward.

New HTML5/Responsive Site - There is also a new sister site being developed that will eventually replace this, however as long as it is possible I will keep this one online simultaneously as well.

I think that's about all for now. Let me know if you see anything wonky with the site.

Regards, Larry

Firefox shows the right sidebar off the screen. When I zoomed in, it showed the ads but one only showed part of the top of it. It did not scroll up with the scroll bar.

Thanks. I tested the site at BrowserStack.com against most browsers and OSs, and it seemed okay there. What Firefox version and OS?

Amorette: I don't see the same when testing. Here is what the site looks like to me under OS X Snow Leopard / Safari 5.1 @ 1024x768 ...

The site *should* now view better across all browsers, more so than ever before. Perhaps your browser cached an old version of the work I was doing while updating? If so, flush your browser cache or tell your browser to fetch a new page on every load.

It works great on my PC (both work and home) on Chrome, but on the droid phone, the ads continuously blocked a quarter of the screen with no sense of relief.

I made some modifications to the site. Let me know if it looks better on your Droid phone now. If not, let me know exactly what that model it is so I can test it myself. Thanks!

It's a bit wonky in Chrome/Iron now, was fine. Was and still is fine on Android 4.4.2

Looked great earlier, but now the display is strange--text, ads with blank under them, and then classifieds far right. Reading a post, the ads block out part of the text. Things aren't under the headers any more. Using Windows 7 with Firefox 29.0.1

Dave Roberts: This is what Windows 7 Firefox 29.0 looks like to me:

I had moved some of the inline styling into an external CSS file. Perhaps a caching issue?

Anyone who is having problems, hit F5 or Ctrl+F5 to refresh your browser window. Or close and reopen it.

If that doesn't fix it, make sure your browser is set to automatically (or always) load new versions of web pages.

If anything continues to look weird, it shouldn't -- so please post exact operating system & browser version number so I can test it!

Thanks!

I see Chrome is messed up. Working on fixing it ...

Oh, I take that back. Followed my own advice and hit F5 to refresh the page, and it displays properly now.

It must have had an old version of the CSS file cached.

I just sent you a message about the problem I was having. Then I saw this link. I hit f5 and it fixed it as you said it would. Thanks. I am using Google chrome as well.
