Just wondering if a peony bud will bloom after it is picked. I have one in a vase and don't want to throw it out if it is a potential bloom. Anyone know?

I have lots of peonie plants in the yard and have tried several times but I have never had a bud bloom in a vase. Sorry.

Here is a link that tells you how to store the buds for up to a month later:

they will not bloom in a vase, they need ants to chew the buds open

It is a myth that peonies need ants to chew open the blossom.

That's right David. Ants play no part in it. I currently have an entire bouquet of buds sitting on my coffee table and several of them are beginning to open!

The ants are ripping the petals open and waiting to go up the nose of anybody that goes in for a smell!
