Panoramic Photo for New Site

I was wondering if anyone was interested in taking a panoramic photo that I could use in the masthead of the new MilesCity.com site?

The photo would need to be taken from an interesting location that shows off the town. The old one was obviously taken from the middle of Main Street, but if there's a better location - then that's cool.

It needs to have about a 12:1 aspect ratio. (In other words, the panorama would roughly need to be about 12 times wider than high.)

If this is something you would be interested in contributing to the new site, please contact me. Thanks!

A photo from airport hill would be nice. I could take a few when I am there in two weeks if you don't get one before then.

I know a photographer how knows how to do that. I will ask him.

Cool. Thanks! If we get more than one, I could perhaps have the masthead change occasionally so it's not always the same.

I'll upgrade the account of anyone who submits a photo, and also provide photo credit for any that are used.

Just an opinion from an "out of towner" here, but I would think twice about a photo from Airport Hill. All small towns look about the same from above (since there are no tall buildings or "skyline"). A shot of Main Street or some other ground level subject would be far more interesting.

Yeah. It's pretty difficult to get a good photo of the town from Airport Hill. I tried something similar back in 1984 when taking photography at MCC...

To donator status, so no nag screen. I guess that won't work for everyone though, eh?

I suppose it's not completely necessary the photo is a panorama - it could just be photo cropped in panoramic fashion.

I took the original for the masthead back in 1999, which looked like this:

I cropped, squished and photoshopped it into this:

The original MilesCity.com Facebook cover photo was taken by David Schott, and looked like this:

Which again, I cropped, squished and photoshopped into this:

So, all I would really need is something to work with that can either be cropped quite wide, or is a wide panorama to start.

As mentioned, the final dimensions of the masthead for the new site needs to be about 12 times wider than high. Also, because the new site is responsive, the right side of the image would be omitted on some devices or at some resolutions. So the middle and left side of the composition would be more important than the right, or at least should kind of stand on their own if the right side isn't displayed.

That all may sound complicated, but it's not. If I just had a nice wide high resolution image of something interesting representing the town - I can work with it.

Regards, Larry

I was referring to one taken from the north side of the bridge going up the hill. The Yellowstone would definitely be in the photo and if done right the mouth of the Tongue would also. Guess I'll do a few and send them to you.

Here are some screenshots of the MilesCity.com V4 prototype site I'm working on. Huge chunks of it aren't written yet, and the design may change somewhat, but it kind of shows how the masthead may appear at the top - and how the right side of it gets cropped as the screen resolution gets smaller.
