Why is it that so many drivers don't stop at stop signs? I have seen numerous drivers just blow through stop signs without looking either way. I have seen all kinds of drivers from senior citizens, middle aged drivers, and young adults go through stop signs. The worst offenders seem to be the city workers. I watched a city dump truck driver go around a string of traffic run the stop sign and not look either way. Even the police go through the stop signs. What is the deal?????

I suspect that folks think it is a sign of weakness. It also appears that slowing to 15 in a school zone, especially at Sacred Heart School is very difficult for some people.

Maybe its a Montana thing. Never saw traffic so bad as when I worked in the Bitterroot. Then moved to the Flathead were it was worse. Then moved to Helena where I have never seen so many people
blatantly run res lights as well as stop signs.

It kind os is a Montana thing but not manliness or the like .It is we are a huge state with few drivers so we stop at a lot of stop signs for no reason. So many get out of the habit and drift through. Now this is not a good thing to do. It does cause accidents and you are right to chastise those who do it. As long as the low level of traffic lets people get away with running signs they will. The only thing you can do is not get mad and upset when you see it. It only raises your blood pressure, increases your chance of a stroke or heart attack and degrades your good driving until you cool off. I say thank you for driving safely and may you never get in the way of someone not.

Just remember that driving is a privilege. And if you abuse it and get caught you you can only blame yourself. Or the cop for doing his job

I think it's distractibility and being lost in you own thoughts so much you are driving unaware to what's around you. It's good that you brought it up. Bad accidents can happen sailing through stop signs. Maybe beefing up the cost of a fine would make some people more alert.

Stop signs interfere with chatting, reading e-mails/texting, etc.
