Anyone have any idea on what a physical address is for UPS, for those of us living in the rural areas? I cannot order trees from mailorder nursery because they need a physical address. I live 9.3 miles west of Broadus on highway 212 and that is not good enough, I need to have a physical address, whatever that is for us country folks. UPS used to deliver without this "physical address", maybe I will just have to make one up and hope it gets here (if I can figure out what the heck they are after).

You should have a physical address given to you by the postal service. I have a PO box...and also a physical address.... I would contact your local post office and they can probably help you out.

It'll be awesome for everybody out in the beautiful countryside when the Republicans finish killing the post office and the only way to get anything sent anywhere is via UPS or FedEx.

I know at one time Custer county did a hugely complex project to assign everybody a physical address and get them into the 911 system. I think it was left to decay during that period when the county decided the city wasn't in the county.

Check at the County Courthouse - someone there is in charge of addresses. Probably the fire marshall or 911. They assign addresses to places, even if they don't get rural delivery.

If I were to have a mail box, the physical address to my mail box is something like 930 west highway 212. Same thing as saying my driveway is 9.3 miles west of Broadus on 212. That is not the physical address to my house, that is the physical address to a mail box if I had one. The nurseries seem to indicate that is not enough, they want a house number or something.

Call the County Rd Department 232-1970. They are in charge of addressing in the county.

My sister lived out there, and she got UPS deliveries all the time. Ask someone at the county. Ask Kathy Roberts, she'll probably know-436-2453.

Years ago, before we had a postal address, we had to use our Range, Township, Section, lot #, or something like that, for all of our deliveries.

My parents used the closest highway mile marker and the highway number in the Ryegate area. They were about 3/4 of a mile past the mile marker so they used 13375 US Hwy ## E. They got UPS and FedEx deliveries. It helps if the delivery person is the same one each time.

There are no streets or even named roads that UPS / FedEx recognizes here. Well the roads have names, but they won’t accept Flat Nose Henry Road, Sockeye Trail, etc. But then it really doesn’t matter as the price UPS charges for “ground delivery” to a roadless area is stunningly ridiculous.

Amazon and some of the larger online outfits have an agreement with UPS / FedEx – sometimes they will ship items as far as Anchorage and then turn the parcel over to the USPS for delivery to our PO Box. But some/many retailers refuse to ship to a PO Box – heck a lot retailers refuse to ship to AK (or other foreign places : -).

It’s sometimes frustrating, but then it’s not a bad price to pay for living here.

Shopping online when living in the Bush is interesting – a couple years ago we bought an outboard from a retailer in Tennessee that promised free shipping. They freaked when they saw what it would actually cost to get the thing to 99613 : -) : -) They wanted to cancel the deal – we wanted the deal and were holding them to their advertised word. But in the end we all arrived at a compromise. They shipped for free to Anchorage and delivered to an air freight outfit – we paid the tab to fly it in from the City. Even paying the air freight, we still got a bargain.

Right now we are putting together our spring grocery order – we’ll order our supplies from Seattle, they’ll be shipped by ocean going barge and so long as the barge doesn’t sink, we’ll have our stuff around the 10th of June.

I looked your property up on the Montana Cadastral survey. Your street address should be 920 W US Highway 212, Broadus, MT 59317-9502. Your neighbor Rainie Munnanix is at 970.

Well, my simple, practical "physical address" is 9.2 miles west of Broadus, and my confusing, encoded, "physical address" is 920 W US highway 212. And if I want to tell someone how to get to my "physical address", I will not confuse them with 920 W US highway 212. They would never find the place.

Most of the time when I order online I input my physical address, and the UPS system will not recognize it... The business will call me to double check and make sure I do live at XXX Whatever Road... Because their awesome computer system does not recognize it. I have to then convince them that I do indeed live at that address and the awesome UPS man delivers to my house all the time. They can then push the address through the system...and voila, package gets delivered. It's just to satisfy the computer. Before all the computer crap, we would put 13 Miles West of *This Town, and had no problems with deliveries.

Hal, when we lived on Adak Island, the big saying about anything ordered was "it's on the barge" and they knew what you meant. Brought back memories!
