I am looking for the records of the boarders at the Ursuline Convent between 1912 and 1916. Does anyone know where these records are kept and by whom?

The telephone number at the Convent. 1-406-234-4146. I would think that the ladies there may be able to help you.

The convent was bought and sold. And sold back. The records may be in Billings. If I remember right the Billings arm wanted the building demolished and that still may happen.

The dioceses is in Helena now, I think. However, the Ursuline Center in Great Falls might (and this is very, very, very doubtful) have the old records. The Ursulines themselves left about 1951 to be replaced by Dominicans and later Presentation Sisters. I can't imagine they bothered much with records.
I do know that the motherhouse of the original Ursulines in Toledo, Ohio, kept letters written by the early Ursuline back home. Some of them are pretty hilarious. You might see if they have an records. I believe that congregation still exists, or did fairly recently.

A few years back I went looking for the records from my home here in WA state, and after talking to several folks connected to the school was told the records that I was looking for (from the 1890s) no longer existed.

So... if you find anything out let me know. My great grandmother's younger sister was a student there, and died there 29 Jan 1890.

Keep in touch, please. Thanks, Diana Crippen

The diocese is in Great Falls, not Helena.

I have the book, "Saints and Savages Gender, Race, and Religion A Clash of Cultures" by Johnnie Lockett Thomas. A very thick book full of copies of letters and information regarding the Nuns, Priests, etc. and appear to have belonged to the Ursuline Convent of the Sacred Heart as well as the Indian Mission and much more. Maybe some of you would know where Johnnie managed to get copies of so much amazing history?

I spoke with the ladies at the Ursuline Convent by phone. The earliest records were from about 1918, which was also too late for me. I e-mailed the school in Great Falls, MT with no reply.

Noticed your thread of questions about school records. Ursuline Sister Francis Xavier Porter is still at the Ursuline Centre in Great Falls and is in charge of the archives there. So if there are records, she would be able to help you. Her phone number is 406-452-8585
