My browser is IE 8 and I keep getting these popups that are saying I need to buy the next one IE 9....Why and is it a good one ? Didn't know that my browser or whatever you call it was out of date...I checked and it said I had IE 10....I am really confused...Thank You...or maybe they mean Windows 9 as I have Windows 8? I get Windows and IE mixed up I guess...Pardon me but I am a really old lady with memory problems...

You never need to buy IE, it's free. It's included with Windows and updates automatically through Windows Update. I doubt you have IE8, which is horribly old and outdated. I assume something is telling you that incorrectly (perhaps a website or malware).

Best thing to do is download Google Chrome or Firefox and forget that IE even exists. I usually use firefox but only because it's been around longer and a hard habit to break.

I agree with Brandon. Download Chrome and/or Firefox (I use both).

Howdy: Windows 8 comes with IE 10. You shouldn't need to do anything other than maybe turn on a popup blocker. I'd ignore the messages that are popping up.

I haven't used IE 10 so can't say how it compares, but I use chrome on my PC at work, (much to the dislike of our corporate IT people) and it works really well. I am planning on being in the neighborhood to see my mom on Sunday and could stop and help you out if you would like. You know how to get a hold of me.

Pop-ups like these can signal a Malware infection. I would recommend running a free Malware Scan program (like Spybot Search & Destroy) to make sure you aren't infected.

And reiterate what everyone has suggested: use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
