Any places to hangout?
Posted by Landen Yanez (+37) 10 years ago
Is there maybe a place or a spot for teens to hangout? I've been here for a month and have not found any places to just hangout with people. I've been just bored out of my mind just walking around Miles City, any ideas?

Teens don't hangout anymore. Don't you have a smart phone?

...gas station.

The old folks want you to be sure to know that they had fun with a rock, in the snow, uphill (both directions) and they liked it. They were lucky if they got TWO rocks.

If you really want great answers ask about whether MC has an indoor pool.

You're on your own - your imagination, initiative, bounds of legality, and whatever you can come up with in MC. For some it's a roaring success, for others you end up like Gunnar.

Landon, if you enjoy cards or just a place to be social with other teens, the Gamesmith on Main Street offers both. I recently went down to get my son started playing Magic the Gathering, and I've seen them play Munchikin (a different card game of sorts), Warhammer (some kind of game that uses figurines), and during the school year I believe they have D&D as well. Pokémon card games may also be played but I haven't seen it. At any rate, it is a place to be social and off technology.

Also, they generally open at 4pm during the week, and it is on the corner by the Movie theater, with posters in the full sized windows. Today (Sunday) I believe they are open at noon.

Oh haha i dont do cards, i'm more of an outdoors/camping sorta kid. I like being in the woods and fishing and all that stuff. But that place does sound like a good spot for teens to hangout.

If you are outdoorsy, join Scouts. Also, check the library in bad weather. They have a lot of teens hanging out there. Spotted Eagle and the pool in hot weather are also full of folks. I don't know of any particular spot in the woods where teens gather, though.

Pirogue (sp?) Island is kind of a neat place to go "exploring". Cross the creek and on the other side there's a wooded area with streams and then an open area with walking paths down to the river.

Get a bike and go down to Pedal Power Sports. There are a lot of kids that like to go bike riding. I hear going to Stawberry hill is a blast.

Depending on your age, check out the Boy Scout program. You can also run out to the Fish and Game office and talk to some of the guys, maybe you could volunteer to help on a project or two which might lead to other opportunities. You could also try contacting someone from one of the outdoor organizations like Walleyes Unlimited and maybe they could get you paired up with some like minded teens that share the same interests as you. I like to see a kid pursue interests in the outdoors, it sure beats the alternative activities that some partake of...At any rate, go out to Red Rock and talk with the guys there too....
Best of luck!

Showing my age....Miles City had a great place for teenagers to hang out in the 1960s and 1970s -- Harmony Hangout. Sorry youngsters, you missed out.

Kids don't like to join "programs" in the summer, do they? (Unless they involve traveling somewhere to play a sport, at least.)

Depends on the kid. I belonged to the Barn Players as a kid. Not what we think of as a 'program' but great times and even greater memories. I loathed organized sports and still do. Can't even swim.

Well you could go riding in the Honda trails... wait that got closed down.
You could go tubing or water skiing at spotted eagle... wait that got closed down.
You could go riding at the spotted eagle riding area... wait that got closed down.
You could go to the skating rink... wait that closed years ago.
Hmm guess I ran out of ideas of fun things I did around here when I was your age.

You could go to the skate park... wait we won't build one of those skaters are evil and it costs money something this community is never willing to give up.
Or you could go to our substandard theater with terrible seating and up until recently terrible sound. The sound has been fixed somewhat but for topnotch movie viewing try Forsyth. They also have an indoor pool.

But in all seriousness if you like to fish we have miles of river at our front door. You can fish along the dike, behind the water treatment plant, Mathews recreation area, Fort Keogh with permission, Tongue River, 12 mile and lots of other places I am probably forgetting. As for hunting your just going to have to form relationships with landowners in the area or know someone with those relationships already formed. There are quite a few prairie dog towns around and coyotes, pretty much everyone will let you shoot those. You could also try paintball, hunting people is always fun

As for non sport related stuff there isn't much for teens in the area unless your creative on your own.

That sounds familiar, isn't Strawberry Hill a recreation center? If so, what all is there?

Landon, they could use some help at the food bank. East Main Animal Clinic could probably use some help. Some people I knew use to go out to Spotted Eagle with bags and gloves and pick up gross things (like discarded disposable diapers) that the slobs Left around. You would be surprised how a little community service helps your self esteem. All of a sudden, you may develop some imagination an no longer need to whine about there's nothing to do in Miles City.
