Good Press for the Mavs

There's a great article in the Dickinson Press about the Miles City Mavericks today (Saturday 6-30).

Good story, but they are confused about geography.

"What happened in the coming weeks and months put a black mark on Montana's Legion baseball program, sent Miles City reeling and provoked another swarm of national media - much the same as after Patch's death - on the isolated town of 9,000 in western Montana."

Sorry I get distracted by such things, but MC is not in western MT. And, compared to Dickinson, ND are we really "isolated".

Pretty funny.

We're in Western Montana?!?! Then where are the gourmet restaurants? The rich celebrities? The excessive home values??!? The mountains?

I am always amazed at some people's inability to read a map.

Could they have meant western North Dakota?

Bozeman Bucks? I thought the ill-fated game was against the Helena Senators.

Are there Miles City Mavs to get good press?

Patch died while playing the Helena Senators, it was the Bozeman Bucks that refused to use wood bats last year, setting off the current string of events. And yes, there is a Mavs team this year and they're doing fairly decent. They will be hosting the Newhouse Tournament starting Wednesday.

For your Info on the wood bat issue. For those of you who know me, they have noticed about 3 weeks ago my big black eye. I was pitching a softball to my 7 year old grandson. He has been hitting a ball since 1 1/2 years old. He hit quite a few good hits. Then I remember getting hit in the eye and woke up on the ground. He hit a line drive right into my face. I did not see it coming. Guess what, he was using his aluminum bat. Needless to say, the bat is retired and I bought him a wood bat. I was a ways from him also and great damage could have been done if my shatterproof glasses were not on. I know for a fact how fast the ball can go with an aluminum bat. by the way, it is almost healed now. I did praise him and told him to keep hitting that way so I can see him go all the way up the ladder in baseball.

for gods sake!! quit putting all the blame on the alluminum bat! I've seen many get hit square in the face with wood bats also. Accidents happen in life. If you want to make the pitcher safe then make them wear head gear like the Batter! the Umpire, the Catcher! Why not just have all legion programs or all of baseball play with wiffle balls and bats. That should do it.
