KATL playing rap music

Weekdays around 7:10 there is a segment on KATL called the "100 Greatest hits of the 90's". I have listened to the last ten. Two were bona fide hits that I have heard on KATL. The last two were rap songs which I had to turn the volume off since I cannot stomach rap music. I enjoy the music played on KATL, but, sorry, do not enjoy the rap music. And the other 6 songs I did not recognize, and were probably never played on KATL.

Ever since that young whippersnapper, Elvis Presley, stirred up those teenagers, this country has gone to hell in a handbasket!

Were you expecting Max Waxworks or Candlelight and Silver?

The music on KATL is 20 years out of date? You don't say.

I worked in college radio for a few years in the early 80s and got a real education in current music. Students kept yelling "Lou Reed" as they passed the booth. I had no idea who he was. Thanks KATL!

Lou Reed is OLD

Standin' on a corner
Suitcase in my hand
Jack is in his corset Janie's in her vest
And me...I'm in a rock and roll band.
HUH!

I highly doubt that the person playing the list created this himself. They were hits for a reason back in the 90's and not every song is gonna appeal to every listener. And i think its ironic that people complain about the songs on 770 being too outdated, since every time that they do play something newer a thread like this pops up to complain about it.

Threads like this start because everytime they play a new song they play it to death!!!! Just like that dumb dumb dumb (not sure of the name of this song but that's about all they said in it) song that I started a thread about last year and now I haven't heard it since. They don't need to stop playing the new just don't over play it.

Most stations around here, particularly if it's a package like 100 greatest hits, come pre-purchased. Local and national commercials are inserted around the package. It's not something the station itself does. I would imagine with 100 greatest 90's hits, you may hear some rap. Same with Absolute 80's on 92.3 - you might hear some Hall and Oates.

I would not complain at all about KATL as it is locally owned. So many stations west of the Mississippi are owned by Clear Channel Radio. They take over stations and eventually they all sound alike. So if you listen to one country CC radio station you listen to them all. Same with rock stations etc etc. Here in Minot CC owns 7 radio stations.

Interesting that all those commenting have never heard the segment. I think rap music is out of place on KATL. For all of us who lost their TV when analog was dropped, some of us turn to radio. I bought a new digital TV, brand new antenna, new booster, and can't get anything. That's what I get for listening to the gov't saying the switch would be easy.

Well Tom, 101.3 KIKC FM (A so-called "Local" station) is actually a satellite station 80% of the time. Same jocks as many other country stations. Same with KATL. 92.3 is the remaining local station here in Miles City, if you call Music-On-Drive a local station. Now days, all the music playlist programming is done by a big company (Such as Clear Channel, Cumulus Media, etc etc.) and not the local jocks. All the so-called "Radio DJs" do is read a screen these days. The bosses sell ads, and schedule them between the music breaks. Using myself as an example, I read what the playlist had scheduled. It sounds like I actually care what music is playing, and hand picked it... when I didn't. Some guy in another state did. Gotta love supporting "local" radio, eh?

Oh Cubby. I remember your post! Myself and a co-worker added it into the 92.3 playlist because we enjoyed it at the time. So, just to bring back old memories, here it is for your enjoyment again!

Clear Channel controls everything. Here in ND they forced all their stations to drop a liberal talk show out of Fargo. The host of the show,Joel Heitkamp, was instrumental in getting a democrat elected to the US Senate(his sister, Heidi). After that he put a lot of pressure on the legislature on just about any legislation introduced by rallying his callers. At the urging of the state republican party Clear Channel forced their stations to drop his talk show. Be thankful you have KATL and their autmated playlist which by the way every station has.

If you want to listen to a decent alternative station, stream x96 out of Salt Lake City. It has a great morning show and the playlist is interesting. But it's not for folk stuck in the classic rock era.

That Dumb Love chorus sounds as if it was lifted from the Doo-wop group The Del Vikings' 50's hit "Come and Go With Me. Is it possible it has been bugging people for over 50 years?

The only rap music that KATL should be playing is this:
