Northerns in the Yellowstone

Wondering if people are catching any northern pike in the Yellowstone river, or more of them than they did a few years ago . Also any other catches different than the norm, thanks.

The last two years there have been a lot more of them. Several people have noticed. I have heard that flooding a few years ago enabled them to make it into the Yellowstone.

Caught a 37 inch northern two weeks ago on the yellowstone, mostly catch catfish, sturgeon and the typical gold eyes ( annoying buggers).

An article in the Billings paper "Lower Yellowstone River..." mentions the Northern`s in the Yellowstone . I bet that 37 inch fish, was a good battle, looks like fishermen and women may be catching more of them, good luck.

Almost every time I fish the Yellowstone, I catch northerns. This spring I was at 12 mile and caught several below the dam as well...they tell me they won't spawn, but I feel otherwise!

There was a nice population of northerns at 12 Mile and Pumpkin Creek back in the seventies. Especially in early spring.

Someone near Terry told me a story about someone else catching two bass, and that they where 18 inches long. I was thinking that`s pretty big, and after more questions, they said the bass where silver colored. Wondering if those might be the white bass, mentioned in the Billings paper article, that are coming up from the ND lake , pass Intake, or something else ? Anybody else catching them or the short nose gar that they mention in there, or any great catches?

If you catch a Northern, do not catch and release. I just read an article in the Denver Post that said the Northern pike are death on native Cut Throats. Besides the Northern make excellent fish tacos.

Pretty sure we don't have a problem with those in the Yellowstone.

Yep. Quite a few Northern's in the Y-stone. It'd be nice if everyone took them home when they caught them. Haven't ever heard of anyone catching a Cut throat trout this far down river but Northern's eat many other fish as well.
They put up a great fight and they eat well too if you know how to clean them.
