Yellowstone Ave. SLOW DOWN!!
Posted by donlarose (+26) 10 years ago
Saw the after affects of accident on the corner of 5th and Yellowstone Avenue last night in Miles City.
Really surprise me that there are not MORE accidents on Yellowstone Avenue. Sine I've live here I seen 3 accidents on this corner.
There are so many drivers who think as soon as they turn on to Yellowstone Ave it's "RACE TIME ON SUPER HIGHWAY YELLOWSTONE"!!!
I think some of these drivers are going as fast 50 mph or more down Yellowstone Ave. It's a scary and could be deadly!
SLOW DOWN!!! YELLOWSTONE AVENUE IS NOT A RACE WAY!!!
Thank you.

Stower St, like Yellowstone, is a raceway, especially since they put in the "fake" street through the cow field. Some of us folks that live on Stower went to a City Council meeting and stressed that Stop Signs needed to be added to the four way stops. Soon after, an accident happened in front of our house - no one stopped at the four way. Then a boy was hit while riding his bike near Highland Park School - the car didn't stop.

We now have Stop Signs but it hasn't stopped the speeders. And we live 1/2 block away from the school zone which is posted at 15 miles per hour. Very seldom does someone drive the posted limit.

And trucks now use Stower as a truck route. Because it's easier for them to get from Main Street to Haynes Avenue. It is NOT a truck route.

If we were to write down all the license plate numbers of those that speed by our house on a daily basis, it would be my full time job. Too many to count. And I know it's not just these two streets - for whatever reason, people are speed demons these days. And then to top it off, they buy cars without blinkers.

Sorry there was an accident on your street but I would encourage you to attend a City Council meeting and let them know your concerns so at least it's noted on record and before someone gets hurt in another accident.

My guess is unless you live on the last block on a dead end, you think everyone drives too fast and ignores signs and can't use a turn signal to save your life.

We live on the 500 block of Yellowstone and this street has become the "Race track to and from Neu View". We have lived here almost 35 years and it has become a well travelled street with the housing additions. A few years ago we have asked for stop signs or yield signs to be up up, but to no avail....! You can see the cars coming from Neu View stop at 4th street and they don't have to stop until 8th street and it truly is a race track!! I cannot even phathom what the heck will happen when the new apartment building starts renting out! The street is nice and wide and I guess that makes it so inviting to speed, but it is dangerous. The speeding does go on all year long and sometimes it is not safe to even have your vehicle on the street...many close calls in the winter time when there are ruts in the street...we have seen many 'cookies' performed!! Please take heed and do slow down, there have been way too many accidents on this street and it is time to make an assessment to what could be done to prevent them.

When we wanted to get the stop signs put by the school (Highland Park), we had to go through the Public Safety Committee. We didn't get all that we wanted, but at least were successful in getting the one 4 way stop on Cale and Stower--helps the kids get across the street more safely (at least most of the time). I believe you need to request that you be put on the agenda for the City Council (who will refer it to Public Safety, in all probability) or perhaps just directly on the agenda for the Public Safety Committee. If you are not on the agenda, they cannot take any action on what you are saying. If the Public Safety Committee recommends the action, it then goes forward to the Council to be voted on.

Good luck! All too many people seem to forget that the "traveling public" includes things other than vehicles.

Thanks Amorette for pointing out the obvious but you don't live on this street! We did buy a house on a quiet dead end street, or so we thought. It was quiet with little traffic until the county or whoever swept in on a Saturday morning and put in the "fake" street. Now Stower is a speed way for everyone going to Haynes Avenue.

We can sympathize with those on Yellowstone because we have lost 4 side mirrors on our vehicles parked on the street. And with that new apartment going in, your street will only get worse.

We kind of understand why the "fake" street was put in - to relieve the pressure on Comstock. But the street seems to have been put in with no planning. After the fake street was in, there was an increase in accidents and speeders racing by a school and a church and no stop signs or yield signs to slow them down. Also with the increased traffic, there is also an increase of garbage on the street. We watch it everyday - and clean up after it everyday.

Those that live on Yellowstone need to do what you can today to get stop signs in place before the accidents increase and someone gets hurt.

WHEN YOUR KIDS ARE OUT PLAYING TRY PUTTING A SIGN OUT IN THE STREET THAT SAYS KIDS PLAYING. IF YOU ARE PLANNING AN OUTDOOR EVENT AND THE TRAFFIC IS SPEEDING ETC, CALL DISPATCH AND ASK TO GET A PATROL TO MONITOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD. WHEN I AM WORKING ON THE STREETS EDGE AND WE HAVE BAD TRAFFIC I JUST NOTIFY DISPATCH THAT WE NEED EXTRA PATROL ON THAT STREET. IF I HAVE A CERTAIN INDIVIDUAL THAT KEEPS GOING BY I SIMPLY RECORD THE PROBLEM WITH VIDEO AND MAKE THE POLICE A COPY, AND THE PROBLEM IS USUALLY SOLVED. GO TO TALK TO THE PUBLIC SAFTY COORDINATOR WHO I BELIEVE US JOHN UDAN AND EXPRESS YOUR ISSUE, AND FOLLOW UP WITH YOUR ISSUE TO SEE WHAT ACTIONS ARE BEEING TAKEN.

Sorry Cindy, but you guys were and will always complain about that "fake" street. I do agree there should be a stop sign at the other end, but it was just as bad on comstock before and now its took the traffic off of one street and split it in two.

How about Dickinson street ! It also seems to be a raceway for the college kids leaving classes.

We live on Dickinson and park our car on the lawn in the winter because we have lost two trees on the boulevard to folks zipping around the corner from Lake to Dickinson. Technically, Dickinson isn't a through street and it is narrow but boy, do some folks enjoy driving down it like maniacs.

We also collect a lot of fast food garbage and bad report cards in our bushes. I have pulled several notes from teachers out of my bushes every spring that parents never saw.

Thats also how it is over here on woodbury after you go over the slew its like race on till you hit the the stop sign, there are a lot of kids and adults that walk this street and most of the "racers" dont like to swerve..luckily no one has had an accident or has been hit!
