Seriously, when someone asks a question, why do you have to belittle? Humor is not humorous at the expense of someone else.

I wondered the same thing a long while ago and I consider myself somewhat tech savvy.

If you need to put others down for asking honest questions, please do it privately and not in a public forum (or better yet not at all).

My motto is Smart People Ask Questions.

IT WAS A REFERENCE TO TYPING IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE THE APPLE II+ ONLY HAD UPPERCASE LETTERS. I'M HAPPY FOR PEOPLE TO ASK QUESTIONS BUT I DON'T THINK THEY NEED TO CONSTANTLY SHOUT.

UNLESS OF COURSE THEY ARE QUESTIONS ABOUT PRIONS IN GMO FOOD OR WHETHER OR NOT THE SANDY HOOK SHOOTINGS WERE STAGED BY THE US GOVERNMENT TO JUSTIFY TAKING OUR PRECIOUS PRECIOUS RIFLES AWAY BECAUSE THOSE ARE STUPID QUESTIONS AND DESERVE MOCKERY.

Dave,

People will post something on classifieds and then type bump into the post so it goes back to the top. Otherwise it's quickly buried in the listings. However, the webmaster has limited the number of bumps you can do.

Instead of simply saying that typing in caps is considered yelling some people just post rude things. They have no self-control so just ignore them.

As for smart people asking questions, I agree. If you want to know something ask.

Dave, you have just discovered the risk you take when daring to intrude yourself on the clique which is milescity.com. One is not even safe from the snobby sarcasm when posting a classified ad. OK, Bridgier...go ahead...

Some times our old fingers inadvertantly hit the cap loks and then we forget to edit what we wrote and then, sigh.. .. we fall asleep at the key board and... snnnzzzzz. Huh?

I ASSURE YOU THAT I AM EDUCATED IN COMMUNICATIONS. I AM A RETIRED NAVAL INTELLIGENCE OFFICER THAT WORKED FOR THE WHITE HOUSE DURING MY TIME IN THE MILITARY AND THE USE OF CAPS IS THE ONLY ACCEPTED AND REQUIRED METHOD OF FEDERAL CLASSIFIED COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS. SO DON'T ALWAYS JUMP TO CONCULSIONS BEFORE YOU KNOW WHAT KIND OF DRINK IS IN THE GLASS. I FIND IT FUNNY THAT SO MANY OF YOU JUMP AT THE CHANCE TO DEMENOR SOMEONE THAT YOU DO NOT EVEN KNOW. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT "BUMP" MENT AND WAS JUST ASKING A QUESTION. IF YOU PEOPLE THAT ARE SO SMART AND LIKE TO SAY NEGATIVE THINGS THEN WHAT IS THIS MEAN............ZRJ, ZYH.............I WILL WAIT TO SEE WHAT YOUR RESPONSE WILL BE.

TO THOSE OF YOU THAT ANSWERED MY QUESTION, I APPRECIATE YOUR ANSWER AND YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. THANKS FOR YOUR KINDNESS.

DAVE

Leaving the caps lock on has two effects. It is read as "shouting" in internet parlance and is much harder to read than normal capitalization. As a fast reader, I skip anything in caps lock because it slows me down so much.

Dave,

I understand your frustration with the lack of respect shown in some posts. I appreciate your question and those who answered it politely. I wondered for quite a while what the bump was.

I have learned a lot about human nature in milescity.com. The good news is there are some very helpful and caring people here. And I am learning to take those who are not so caring with a "grain of salt". Most of the time I just let it slide but at times my patience is worn thin. That is why I needed to inject my "two cents" in this thread.

I am glad you asked the question and I wish more of us would have the courage and intelligence to ask questions to learn.

Have a great day!

I am sorry it slows you down, In my 25 years working in the military and then some other govt. jobs and then some corp. jobs as well such as the media industry; CAPS was the perferred way to communicate. Caps were used for inter agency communications b/c it lessons the error rate by 90 percent. There have been studies done and has proven that all CAPS makes errors much less a problem. I understand the use of regular english grammer and use, but I am not in an english class either. Hope this makes it much easier to read.

ALL CAPS may reduce error rates but for fast readers like me, it is a pain in the patoot. I have to struggle with ALL CAPS whereas I don't with normal type. We make a lot of deductions based on the shape of the word and ALL CAPS screws that up.

I have also run into the theory that if the first and last letters of a word are correct, we can still read gobbledugunk. I have tried that and, again, while I can read it, it also slows me down.

I also suspect ALL CAPS is a hangover from the days of the telegraph, when there was no lower case, and it makes things look IMPORTANT.

I feel your pain and hope this helps. Just for your FYI I am an extremely fast typer (one of my qualifications b/c I had to handle messages for high levels of the govt to include the POTUS) so that also is one reason why I use caps. I will try to avoid my responses and comments being in caps when I do think about it. I just type much slower by using lower/upper case vs all caps or all lower. But, I do appreciate and respect your position. Thanks
Dave
P.S. I had to be able to type 140 wpm

Many years ago I was a teletype operator and we had to type in all caps so I completely understand...it is hard to get used to the other way...but now I agree with Amorette, and find it harder to read...I finally got used to it...takes a while tho...LOL...

Sometimes I use Caps to emphasize something, not for shouting. And, Dave, I'm old old girl, well over the hill, and I find reading all Caps easier! Puts it in the neighborhood of larger or darker print. A lot of print is really small and on the lighter color side.
Better, yet, upping the print size to a"14" and or adding "bold" makes great reading. Just one opinion.

To change the subject, Miles City was my address for quite a few years some time back, and I still have family in the area. Years ago, like more than 45, I went to a couple dances at the Garland school. That's another story, but I am delighted to hear it is being kept up, and hasn't gone the way of so many other country schools in the area. Schools hosted many community get-to-gethers with alot of memories for many.

olebabe, try this. Hold your control button (ctrl on the keyboard) down while you roll the scroll wheel on the mouse.
Look what happens. You can make the page and text and photos BIGGER on the screen.
Hope this helps.
