Missing a bumper?
Posted by Cortney S (+48) 10 years ago
I know this is a long shot but this is a small town and people talk. Whoever decided to run into my fence 2 days ago has caused hundreds of dollars worth of damage. They did not inform me that they did this, however, they did lose a part of their passenger side bumper, which is plastic. They must have been going fairly fast (I live in a school zone) in order to ruin my fence and manage to come into my yard. I would not be so upset if the person would have informed me, but I am guessing they were driving recklessly so they didn't' t want to fess up. If anyone knows anything or if you would like that piece of your bumper back, message me and maybe we could work something out.

Time to do a little detective work or at least report it to the sheriff. It is a small town and a car with a missing bumper would be noticed. Perhaps the color of the bumper might be a useful clue.

Hmmmm.....several possibilities present themselves.

1. Hire a police artist to create a sketch of the likely auto appearance based on specs of the bumper. You can add aging to the end result to compensate for the few days that have passed since The Incident.

2. Have a car line-up. Get all of the cars in the city....make it the county, just in case, to form a line with the front of the car facing forward. Inspect the line looking for two things, the missing bumper's original home, which will be revealed by a space where it used to be, or a shiny new suspicious bumper where the old one used to be.

3. You might wish to hire a profiler to project a likely carspect. It's amazing what conclusions can be drawn these days from a few shards of metal, or plastic.

4. Send pieces of the bumper into the Batcave for testing. The Bat Computer can analyze the material and come up with likely scenarios which would have resulted in The Incident occurring.

5. Send a request to [email protected] with the suspected date and time of The Incident. All satellite imagery will be scanned and likely vehicles will be isolated and submitted to you via photo technology.

Although these are very obvious and have more than likely already been put into practice, I listed them as a reference for someone who might not be as savvy as most.

Also, Frank, if the suspect vehicle has OnStar, it's data file may be seized and analyzed by skilled technicians/expert witnesses/paid perjurers. Everywhere it's ever been is recorded, if any of it's GPS coordinates match the damaged fence and the timeframe, you have the culprit. Or so I've read on the internet.

Excellent advice Frank. Now if you could get back together with your brother Joe and father Fenton this case could be cracked in a few days.

Does a car missing part of the fender make it a jalopy?

I'm so glad that my damaged property has become a source of entertainment
I hope that none of you have to deal with someone destroying your things.
