What about a Cancer Support Group for Miles City?
Posted by Diane Emeney (+496) 10 years ago
My husband has lung cancer and was interested in finding a cancer support group. The closest one we could find was in Billings so I thought I would post this here and see if there are others with cancer who would be interested in forming a support group in Miles City. If enough were interested, I would be happy to look into finding a place to hold the group and help get things started. Cancer is such an overwhelming thing to deal with, it would be nice to share information and support with others going through the same thing. You can answer here or email me at [email protected] if you are interested

Maybe contact Rosa Neese at the Star? I would hope she could find some sort of support for your husband? So sorry to hear of that damned disease "getting" anyone! Thoughts to you...

Holy Rosary Hospital might a good source to check. I know they let groups use their rooms to meet in.

Thank you My husband is doing pretty good but having a chance to visit with others going through the same thing would be helpful so I'm hoping I can find enough people interested in coming. It would be nice to share ideas and offer support to each other. Cancer is a scary thing to go through.

You might call the Frontier Cancer Center in Billings too. They provide treatment for so many from Miles City. They might actually set it up for you. 238-6290

I have not had to go through having cancer, but have had a couple of family members that I supported through their cancers.
I also treated and knew a lot of patients through the years with cancer.
If I can be of any help let me know.

Rosa says there isn't a formally organized group but you might get in touch with Mary Margaret Friend at HRH to see if there is anything informal.

Lots of helpful advice I know there is no formal group here yet, but I intend to get one started I want to have it not just for the people with cancer, but their family members who also deal with it I can't imagine someone dealing with this by themselves..would be very overwhelming.

Please contact your American Cancer Society at cancer.org or 1.800.ACS.2345. They have funding and trained staff persons who can help start the group or organize presentations to address the issues that cancer patients and their families go through.

You might call the Star paper and talk to Denise and see about getting it in the community calendar, 234-0450.

Very excited about our first meeting on December 3rd. Been on the phone all morning with the American Cancer Society on sending me information and pamphlets to have available at the meeting. I can't believe how much information and help is out there.

Hope this is wildly successful. Fortunately, my latest tests came back benign so I am good for another six months. Hope you are still around should I need it.

That's awesome but you could still come if you want You have experience and things you might want to share with others. This is not just for those that are battling cancer, but for anyone who's had to deal with it too

Actually, I am a survivor of a melanoma. This latest round was for breast cancer. If I remember and have the energy, I may drop by to give my little spiel about early detection.
