CCDHS Alumni Site

My sister sent me this site the other day. I registered and so far I haven't been spammed by them

http://custercountydistri.../index.php

I think I am the only one registered in my class but I haven't checked in the past few days. Registration is free and I think you can email classmates through there as my sister emailed me the other day.

Come on over The only new critter is a baby bunny. Hopefully the orphans critters stay slow this year.
I am going to go look and see if any new classmates signed up
I am still trying to figure out who owns the web site

Any idea who has set up, and maintains, this site? It appears similar to Classmates.com and others, that have a membership fee, which this one does also, in order to get full range of use.

I was trying to figure it out but so far I haven't had time to really look into it or do my profile yet

I signed up for this site, but I didn't see anywhere on it that there was a fee. I have been able to use all the features on it, without paying a fee.

There's definitely a fee -- if you login it mentions a $25 lifetime membership fee, and if you try to use particular features the site more forcefully requests it.

If it is all on the up-and-up, which I guess it appears to be, then perhaps that is a fair amount and is justified -- but who knows.

In any case, I assume they can't be as bad as classmates.com though, who has:

(A) once re-subscribed me and charged my card -- even though I specifically opted out of reoccurring billing, and

(B) twice sold my credit card information to scam-type companies that put dubious charges on my card -- for reoccurring yearly subscriptions of scam-type services. I'd have to look in my past e-mail to recall all of the details, but they were companies that I never heard of, never had any affiliation with, and certainly never asked for reoccurring yearly subscriptions from.

A Google search at the time yielded hits to lots of other unhappy people, all pointing back to classmates.com.

Well, apparently you didn't poke around enough, if you do... you'll quickly find something like this:

For the privacy of our alumni on the Internet, only upgraded alumni can view this material; For a one time Lifetime Membership of $25, you can upgrade your membership and gain access to all the available features.

Now, I'm not saying there is necessarily anything wrong with asking for a $25 "Lifetime Membership" fee... but it should be understood that the site is built around that concept.

I love it. They protect the privacy of the alumni but for a mere 25 bucks the protection is out the window and they'll show you everything.

Me thinks that protecting privacy is not the true motive behind the $25 charge...

Privacy is only important to them when asking for money, otherwise they sell your info.

I too found they immediately asked for $20. You may look at lots of things as a "basic member" but, if you want to view profiles then you have to be upgraded. It would be interesting to know who is the origiator of this site. Anyone know how to go about finding out?

"Reunion.com" just asked me for $20 (and tried to scam into my address book to email all my contacts!) but so far this site has never asked me for any money. Maybe it recognizes me from "Classmates.com" where I refuse to join their pay per view service!

IMO, beware of "classmates.com" and "reunion.com". They snake you in, and without your authorization (or buried in obscure fine print) will charge a reoccurring annual fee. It will just pop up a year later. And then the next. And it is a pain to stop.

I haven't visited either of the sites in quite some time; however, it would surprise me if they are not related. They both seem to have the same poor business practices.

I recommend not using those services unless they have improved.

A much better and totally free (volunteer contributions only) is:
http://www.classreport.org

It's not "web 2.0", but it has quite a bit of the most needed features. If someone agrees to admin a class section, they can make it a dynamic re-uniting place. They've been around for several years, and if word-of-mouth gets big enough, it will put the shysters (Reunion.com / Classmates.com) out of business.
