Richard Flor passed away last night, in a Las Vegas hospital, from two massive heart attacks. Mr. Flor was serving a five year federal sentence for growing medical marijuana in compliance with Montana law. He was 69 years old.

I will miss you Good Bud.

My thoughts are to Mr. Flor's family. He was a great guy (disclosure: I never met), of whom I enjoyed his posts here on mc.com for many years.

Wendy, I think my use of "whom" may be incorrect here, so I'd like a little help. Thank you.

From reading the article in the Star, shouldn't the title be, "Feds Kill Richard Flor By Denying Medical Care?"

Gunnar, I'd reword the sentence to avoid whom altogether.

I'd like to read that article. Evidently it's not topical enough to make the Star website. Actually, it appears that not much is very topical these days.

Richard's parents, Bing and Katherine lived across the alley from us,when we lived on Cale. They were wonderful people and neighbors. They both loved gardening and we often enjoyed the fruits of their labor. It's sad that Richard 's life ended this way.

If we are going to lock up pot people at any level we must be prepared to care for them in the proper way. My way of thinking would have put him at home where care was availible or he could have at least died in friendly suroundings. When will we give up this unwinable war.

They tried to get it to where he could be at home or a hospital but he was denied that option

When will we give up this unwinable war

When "tough on crime" isn't a guaranteed plus in any given election.

Actually, the drug war is a good example of America's preference for a pound of cure over an ounce of prevention, and an addiction to useless moralizing at every opportunity.

We COULD be teaching our children healthy habits about things like sex and drugs, but it makes us feel better to moralize and preach abstinence, even though WE ALL KNOW that only a small fraction of the population will be abstinent.

Of course... preaching an unobtainable standard on the front-end allows for plenty of profit to be reaped on the back, at least as far as drugs go. There's a LOT of money to be made in the drug war, whether it's padded budgets at the sheriff's office, or full cots at the private prison.

Richard was a friend of mine,He was raised by good parents. He was a proud parent. And he loved to laugh. He graduated from CCHS 1962.Than he joined the Navy. All of his life he was a giver, not a taker. Most Montana people are like this.Good people.I am trying to say, Richard was good people.

I just got off the phone with Kristin, Richard's daughter. In addition to the ailments listed in the paper, the coroner's report also states that Richard was full of colon cancer. Kristin also told me that in spite of Richard's mobility problem, they wouldn't allow him to use a walker. In addition, he and his wife Sherry were prohibited from communicating, even by letter.
Kristin pointed me to this article (3 pages).

Here is another kicker...

Although Richard was essentially unconscious and on life support, they still had him shackled to the bed when he died.

This news is a gasp of the soul. I didn't think my eyes would tear over someone I hadn't seen or spoken to in so many years, but I did. As kids, he would call me up, always filled with such life and enthusiasm; and more recently, would e-mail me occasionally, some really funny, laugh out loud jokes!
I'll always consider him a dear friend with a terrific humor!
My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. From this mortal level, no one can comprehend all the ways his life has touched others. I hope Rick knows I have so many wonderful memories of him.

Such a sad ending to his life! I remember Rick as a teen, and he was a whirlwind on the dance floor at Harmony Hangout. He had such zest for life, and such a great sense of humor! My sincere condolences to his family - life should have been kinder to him.
