There are no yearbooks for the Pine Hills School any more. Then Supt. Steve Gibson confiscated them in the name of juvenile privacy and removed all copies from the library in the 2000s, presumably for demolition. Bill Zook, former librarian.
Bill, Were all the yearbooks "sealed" by a court as part of sealing the criminal record of a juvenille? Did this include all school published documents from when it was called an industrial school also?
I have never heard of the Historical Society destroying anything. That is interesting.
The Historical Society archives have some records that can only be released to the specific individual or his/her descendents through a director approved release form. My understanding is some records can be accessed by anyone once the individual in question dies (by submitting a death certificate). For instance, I have accessed orphanage records in the archives.
They were in the basement of the ADMIN building, but the vault flooded. I think most of the records, including the rolls from the begining of the school were destroyed by water.
I know they were there because I saw them there! But that was 20 years ago. Gosh, doesn't seem like it could be so long ago! Time sure does fly.
