This was under "Smoke in the air"

"The fire at Mooncreek started in Custer County and is now in Rosebud County and is supposed to be under control."

The Mooncreek fire must be/have been small. It wasn't detected on the MODIS satellite imagery, which updates every hour. There is a new fire west of Colstrip and north of the Sarpy Creek coal mine.

The yellow dots are fire since the 1st of the year, orange in the last 24 hrs and red in the last 6 hrs.

Richard, could you give the web site address for this active imagery fire map?

Thank you, DJB

Click on the US map. You will have to allow pop-ups for this site. After the viewer loads, check the MODIS layer and populated places if you want towns to show on the map.

It was fairly small started about mid day and was reported by on site fire fighters to be undercontrol by 2:30 pm. Luckily two helicopters were close by and available to help. Its good to see the small community of Moon creek jump to help each other out so quickly. A few people were left out there this am but it appeared most everyone had already pulled out. This is just what I observed and was told by fire fighters and local residents on site.
