Miles City BBQ Cook-Off ! Think MC could do this !
Posted by Kerry Kilen (+89) 11 years ago
Do you people of Miles City think something like Absarokee is doing on July 1st would work here. Is there enough interest here for some competive BBQ to see who has the best BBQ in the County. Post something if you guys are into it. Thanks! Kerry a friend of the Kansas City BBQ Society

It could be fun (and tasty). Are there any other events that it could run in conjunction with......doesn't MC (or did they) have a bluegrass festival?!?

I think it would go over quite well. I had a conversation with some friends recently about how much fun that would be.

Great idea Kerry. It might get more attendance if it was combined with something else going on like a concert, rodeo or something.

Attended the Absarokee BBQ Cookoff yesterday.....good food, great music. It was well organized and they had a good attendance. For such a small town they really did great. I agree that it would probably be easiest to organize if it ran as part of another event.

Let's get the Tongue River BBQ Cookoff started or what ever sounds good. Need a challenge for the welders out there to build the ultimate Smoker.I think we could all make this work to benefit MC if we all put our hearts into it.How about having a BBQ on Labor Day Weekend over at water plant park whichis a nice setting for music ,beer & BBQ. Hey if anyone has ideas give me a call at 951-0193 or just wants to come out and BBQ.Let's get this party started! Kerry

What about tying this in with the Misquito Festival in June? There's usually a street dance and ranch rodeo that weekend...this might add some good fun to that as well.

Just a thought...

Kerry - the Montana Pork Producers Council office is in your backyard here in Jordan, MT. While we might not immediately be able to sign on as a largescale sponsor, we heavily participate in other events throughout the state and serve as a major sponsor of the Montana State BBQ in Stevensville in early August. MPPC would commit several prize items if the ball gets rolling in 2012 as well as serve as manual labor (ie, myself as the Exec Dir.) There are many interested teams in Eastern Montana that are unable to travel to the Western side to compete due to time and money. An Eastern competition would be well received. Please let me know if I would be able to assist you.

I would help with whatever to get this going, remember Gary and I were judges with you in Absarokee. Ya know local vendors with wares could sell at the same time. Music would have to be donated. Anyway until we hit the road we are available. Sheila 853-5180

Not sure if this is still in the works - but if it is I'd be interested in helping. The Absarokee BBQ Cookoff is scheduled for July 7 this year and their website might give good ideas as far as contestant and vendor rules, etc. http://www.montanabbqcookoff.com

On June 14, 2014, from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm plan to attend the Miles City First Annual Cowtown Cookoff. It will coincide with the Miles City Mosquito Festival, the Ranch Rodeo, and the MT Livestock Growers mid-year convention. This will be a fun, family friendly event with lots of BBQ sampling and local talent entertaining, followed by a street dance at 9:00 pm.

This is a Kansas City BBQ Society Sanctioned event. We are listed on the KCBS calendar of events at http://www.kcbs.us/events.php. Being a sanctioned event will bring regional competitors, and could attract national teams; HOWEVER, we are looking for as many local teams and certified judges as possible.

If you would like to sponsor, compete, volunteer, judge, vend or have a concession, please call 406 439-0491. Additional information and application forms can be found on the chamber website at http://www.milescitychamber.com.

All proceeds will benefit the Custer County Community Table (Miles City Soup Kitchen) a 501(C)3 non-profit organization. Please Plan to Support us!
