I found this article interesting. An internet-like concept was actually thought of in 1934.

ca. 2,500,000 B.C.E. (+/- a million years or more) the mother of all information-sharing technologies came into usage.

ca. 3200 B.C. (+/- a century or two) information-sharing technology was revolutionized on a scale as of yet to be surpassed.

In the mid-15th century information-sharing technology made a leap that still probably outweighs the impact of the internet on human society & culture.

Makes me wonder what the next big step will be like? One that will be comparable to jump from cuneiform on clay tablets to Gutenberg's Bible.

He said he "took the initiative in creating" the internet. If you read the whole statement, his meaning is more clear, but this is a classic case of people (and the media) taking something out of context and losing the real meaning in the process.

It was a self-serving statement though, you have to agree on that. But of course you can't be a politician without engaging in those!

I saw algore introduced on tv as "the man who invented the internet" and he came out waving and smiling with that stupid look on his face. I am sure he was in on his introduction.
