Milwaukee Apartments

My folks stayed in what they called the Milwaukee Apartments, August thru October, 1937. My dad worked for the telephone company. Does anyone know where these apartments were located and is the building still there? They also lived in the Ingham Hotel in August, 1937, and I found the information on the Hotel in this web site very interesting!

I believe the Milwaukee Apartments are the ashlar brick building on North Montana and the old Milwaukee tracks. Still standing, by the way.

It's the building to the left of the drop-pin.

Wow, I lived in one of the apartments there for a year, and we always called it the pink apartments. Patsy Summers (Doyle) owned them when I lived there. They later changed the color so they would not be confused with the pink aptartments a block or two closer to main st.

My family lived in this apartment building most of my growing up years and I lived there for a while after I was married. My Dad, Joe Brady, managed the apartments for several years when it was owned by a man named Klovsted (sp?) of Billings, then owned by Sherman Hunt before Doyles purchased it. I don't ever remember it being called the "Milwaukee Apartments". It was the Elsmere Apartments name that I remember and the address was and still is 701 No. Montana Ave. I always thought that an apartment house or former hotel closer to the Milwaukee passenger depot was the Milwaukee Apartments..maybe 8th or 9th Street near the depot?

One of my family members who can remember Miles City history better than I, agreed with me on the location of the "Milwaukee Apartments", and also agreed that the Montana Avenue apartment building was never referred to as such. The name of what we decided was the "Milwaukee Apartments" was the St. Paul Hotel located at 9th and Washington Streets. During the 50's and 60's it went by another name, but still had "St. Paul Hotel" printed on the front or side of the building. Stands to reason that this building would be referred to as the "Milwaukee Apartments" given the full name of the Milwaukee Railroad..Chicago, Milwaukee, ST. PAUL and Pacific Railroad.

You may be correct, but I try not to place myself in situations to have to correct Amorette.

I thought of the St. Paul Hotel, too, but never heard it referred to as anything but the St. Paul. Still standing and abandoned last I knew.
