I was listening to KATL radio this morning at 7:30 and could not believe how bad they have gotten. First of all, they had a song over lapping while Mike started the news. Then the stories were below par, one of the stories were about jerky underwear. What the heck does that have to do about local news?

I remember when old Rick Shultz had everything and anything you wanted or "not really" wanted to hear.

Anyway, I see why I'll just stay with IHeart Radio.

Oh the old play two songs at once trick. It used to happen every day at least once and sometimes for a half hour at a time.

KGLT is a great station. It has tremendous varity. Just about anything you want at some time. It's not just Miles City radio that sucks. Radio in general any more sucks unless you get satellite radio(which I don't). I live in Helena and radio here sucks too,
except KGLT. I don't know how many tunes I used to love have been ruined by "Classic" rock stations overkill. Last I knew The Beatles, Stones, Who, CCR, Grateful Dead, Tom Petty, Cars, Aerosmith
all the bands from the 60's through the 90's each had more than
2 or 3 songs worthy of play. You also don't have to play just
the hits for great music.

You are correct, sir. Helena's 101.1 station plays the same "Classic Rock" songs to the point that I never want to hear "Won't Get Fooled Again" for the rest of my life.

Even satellite radio falls into the same trap as these "classic rock" stations. I can't count the number of songs I used to love that have been played to death by the classic rock stations on XM.

I don't know why a station can't play a song from ANY era as long as it's good. Why do they have to pigeonhole themselves? Just to pick one example, "Born This Way" by Lady Gaga is a decent song and would fit in with a set of dance music from the 80s just fine.

I suppose there are some people who just assume that if a tune is not from "their" era, then it sucks. I feel bad for those folks -- they're missing a lot of good stuff!

I listen to the radio stations with live djs. If I want music only then I listen to satellite or my own stereo. Personality makes the difference in radio stations.

Way back in the day when KATL was 1240 on the dial, they had time slots throughout the day that played different styles of music - and even had coffee talk in the a.m. where listeners could call in to discuss topics. Too bad they changed their format. I don't have satellite radio in my vehicle, so usually only listen to YPR....at least they have variety. I wish MC had some talk radio. I love to listen to the Dennis Miller when I can catch it in Kalispell or Billings - very entertaining.

"The Party Line"...? Was that it?

I love KATL. Yeah, maybe sometimes a song goes over the person speaking, but the people running the place are people, people make mistakes. I like the music they play (most of it)is family friendly. Stories may not be amazing, but it is better then a bunch of bad news in my opinion. They have really great contests and I like listening to Cooking with Carla. Just a little love for KATL from me!

1340. It was the "Party Line" show.

"This is the party line, this is the party line...
...and it's time for all the gossip on the party line.
"What's going on, tell us who, why, and how?
...just listen in to the party line now....
"Oooohoooh, bring you the latest on the party line...PARTY LINE!!

What a program!

They do have the best call letters in the country, though.

Best Miles City broadcaster name: "Theodore Edward Bear"- KIKC Radio.

I seem to recall my brother Don and his friend Mike Sindelar complaining heavily that Mrs. Idler (sp?) made them listen to "Party Line" in class at Washington School. I imagine that Leota Henrichs (sp?) was a frequent caller to the "Party Line" show.

Umm... Leota WAS party-line. Fred resorted to a timer to give other a chance to call in. The Harmony Hangout was one of her favorite topics.

The Leota Show was hilarious. It was addicting. We tuned in every day to hear the latest complaint against us. I know she meant well though.
I think KATL did a great job of keeping us up on the latest music of the Rockin Seventies. You just had to turn it on at the right time.
