Our Miles City Post Office
Posted by BLT (+91) 11 years ago
I am wondering why our local post office is still working out of temporary quarters.
I know the original emergency is over and has been over for quite some time.
The facility they are in is very substandard. A town the size of Miles City deserves a decent facility. I have asked numerous people about this with no real answer.

The staff does a wonderful job there, I think they also deserve better. Lets make our voices known to the powers that be.

Thanks

I agree!! I have thought that for a business that is in such poor financial shape that they have to close offices would look for ways to cut costs, to me paying rent when you already own a building is a waste of money.

Word has it the P.O. had to sign a (non-refundable) lease in order to rent the building they are currently in. I guess they feel they might as well stay until the lease runs out. Not sure of when that time frame comes to an end.

I love the great parking space where they are at now. I hope they stay there.

The plan, which is dependent on higher ups, is to move back after some painting and other improvements are done at the old post office. While the exterior parking is handy, the interior layout is miserable. I heard "sometime in the spring" as the projected date but what that means is anyone's guess. Again, take with a grain of salt as plans change in the PO due to finances pretty regular and we are a little fish.

The blue boxes for dropping mail into are still outside the old post office. Do they pick mail up from them daily?

Yes, they pick up from there at five thirty PM.

Sorry if this is too divergent, but did the old post office suffer any structural or cosmetic damage due to the spill/leak or cleanup?

Or, did the building basically survive as-is?

No damage. Just hasn't had a good cleaning and/or painting in a while so they thought they'd do it while it was empty. Of course, they haven't done anything yet.
