Question About Pigs

Barn Players, Inc. are interested in a young piglet for a small role in the upcoming production "Alice in Wonderland".

Young pig needed the first week of March.

As I am not familiar with local pigs, breeding, and birthing schedule; can anyone enlighten me on whether or not this is a possibility?

The Barn would be very interested in purchasing a pig and then donating the animal to a 4H student for raising and his or her project.

Any help with this quest would be most appreciated.

I can be reached via email: [email protected], my contact info here on mc.com, or by cell (406)951-0560.

Thank you very much!

Hannah,
Club pigs for this show season farrow from Jan 1st on. You should expect to pay at least $300 for a prospect. A pig old enough for your purposes would be too old to be in market class at Custer County fair but could be in a July fair like Rosebud County's.
Logistically it might be more bother than you need because piglets in a nursery are living in heated 85 degree buildings and then moved to 65 degree as they get older. Biosecurity for pigs has to be strict so you could not just borrow a pig and take him back.
A commercial weaner pig would be significantly cheaper to purchase. The extension office should know where you can buy one. Hutterite colonies are large producers in Montana.
If someone has a runt pig they have bottle fed that would be ideal for you. Handling a pig that hasn't been held will be noisy and entertaining but probably not what you have in mind.

@Cindy

A runt, bottle-fed pig sounds ideal for our needs; the smaller the better! All performances are indoors.

I will call the Extension Office today to see if they have any ideas or leads.

Thank you very much for the information! (And as for noise, it is just fine if he or she makes noise!).
