The building where Cafe Utza is located opened 75 years ago to much fanfare. It was originally a shoe repair shop. In 1936, a new building of ANY kind was worthy of celebration and while it didn't quite get the fanfare of the Montana Theater, it was still featured in the newspaper. It had upholstered furniture for people to sit in while their shoes were repaired. How's that for uptown!

What all was in that location between the shoe repair and Benasky's Newsstand?

Benasky's newsstand was in the shoe repair building.

I am sorry, I should have been clearer with my question; what other businesses were in that location after the shoe repair business but before Benasky's ?

I ran across this newspaper clipping in some of my stuff. (Carol is my aunt.) It was printed in The Star in 1983.
