Do you know of someone who quietly helps others? The person might be a volunteer with your agency or someone who just does for others without any one asking - maybe they grow fresh vegetables for seniors who no longer can raise their own gardens or they've helped children learn to read for decades. We want to hear about them!

This will be our second People ARE Presents Christmas show on Montana East Regional News (heard on KYUS and KMTA in Miles City. We are taking names (and pictures for my Examiner Column) now. Help us highlight those people who gift our communities with time and talent!

Please send your nominee's name, picture, and a sentence or two describing what they do for the community to [email protected] We'd like your name and contact phone too in case we have any questions - but that information can be kept a secret.

Thanks!!

Good idea Howdy, I know she has some kind of certification to work with raptors just because she loves animals. She is always taking in injury wild life and domestic animals who need help.

She also went to LA after hurricane Katrina to rescue animals, truly a giving person.

I nominate Snickers-(I know who she is but don't know if she wants me to post it online). She not only saves people's lost or hurt pets, but also rescues just about any type of a hurt or lost animal in town including squirrels, baby birds, feral cats and probably just about anything around(short of a deer or a large farm animal-and probably only because she can't keep them in her house in town!) . She often has around 40 "patients" at a time, so cannot travel or do anything fun where she gets away for more than a few hours because then there wouldn't be anyone to give them their medicine or bottle feed them. She spends all of her own money to feed them and take them to the Vet and transport them around the state if they are an endangered species that has to be treated by the Raptor Center in Billings or Helena(she even rehabilitated and then sent a little lost burrowing owl to Texas) . If there is a disaster she will be there making sure the animals don't get forgotten or further hurt. She skimps on her own sleep and sometimes ignores her own health to nurse the animals. She is on call at all hours of the day and night as the police and other people bring hurt animals to her when they can't find their owners. She has saved tons of animals from being put asleep at the Pound, using her own money to "spring" them and then trying to find new owners for them (she has ended up adopting quite a few who couldn't find owners, and has quite a collection of one eyed cats and other animals that lost limbs, ears, jaws ,etc. when they were abused by their previous owners). She has another job on top of the non-paying volunteer animal rescue where she works with at risk kids in town and saves a lot of them from falling through the cracks as well.

so I guess we can say that Miles City.com nominates Snickers for that honor...someone emailed me and said they knew who she is and would tell the powers that be her name etc for the contest...Good luck Snickers, it's about time the community gave back for your wonderful efforts for all the critters..

As much as she does, and the animals lives she has saved, put her down all three times...I nominate her for all three times...
