Brrr... Winter and missing the webcam.

I remember, last year, watching the first snowfall on the webcam. Josh and I joked here (as he was viewing it too) about the Bobcat driver at the bank - clearing snow - nearly clearing a few parked cars of their bumpers.

Here in the Metro we're getting an inch of rain from a system that's currently dumping several inches of snow on Colorado and Nebraska. It's knocking a lot of the bright gold leaves off the trees.

If it's still down come first-snow I'll miss watching MC's start of Winter.

We had a skiff of snow fall yesterday afternoon in Helena, and it did not melt. 18°F this morning walking to work...I'm glad I fished out my Elmer Fudd hat this past weekend.

1-3 inches predicted for Friday, and a high of 30°F predicted for Saturday. I think it is time to go elk hunting.

Just so everyone knows, the camera is still there, along with everything needed to stream it out (except a computer). If someone has a computer laying around that they would donate (needs to have 2GB ram minimum, and at least a P4) then I could get it running again.

Josh, I don't have a completely assembled computer, but I can see what I can do about mixing and matching pieces to get one together for you. Is your email on here good, if I do get that far? (My email on here is my old school address, so it's a no-go for me.)

It was updated recently to use my iCloud email address. However, my primary is [email protected]

Better yet, Complete barebones kits are on Tiger direct for 300.00 or less. Only thing missing is an OS, and I have one that can be used for the machine. I would be willing to put the thing together.

I also have a bunch of hardware left over when my partner shut down the Big Sky Computers and moved back to North Carolina. I have about 15 used computers that could be used to swap parts in.

Just send a note to mailme (at) midrivers.com

We need to get a set of cams ( 360 view with multiple cams ) placed up at the airport to be able to provide people a way to view incoming weather, snow fall over the city and incoming and outgoing flights. That would be a way to run up on the hill to see the storms coming without running up on the hill.

I too have an OS available for the machine. And a barebones kit is fine, however the finances aren't there.

Ok, I am building a Quad Core AMD Phenom x4 with a 250gb hard drive, 2gb ram, DVD RW, All upgradeable. I am going to ask $250 for the tower. I will throw in Windows XP Professional with CD and Code ( in the original sleeve ), a value of $100.00. If everone puts in for the tower, then we can have a computer for the webcam.

If not, I will be selling the computer through the classifieds, but the webcam project has 1st chance at it. This would be a way we can get the webcam going. If a flat panel monitor is needed one would cost 100.00 or less through Newegg. As low as 69.00 when they are on sale.

So instead of complaining, lets get this thing going.

I seem to remember, on facebook at least, that Josh said he was putting the webcam back up soon as he had a computer given to him or something like that...

Correct Howdy. Actually, thanks to a generous gift from Dave Roberts of Billings... We have a computer. I have a few plans for the MilesCam coming soon, but for now we have at least one piece of the puzzle back together.

Just in case anyone was wondering, the computer is a Dell Zino. I'm not sure of the exact specs at the moment, but it is a dual core cpu with 4GB of ram and a 320GB HDD. It is more than capable of running the MilesCam, 24/7.. and in HD. Hint.

Well, in all fairness I don't think I heard anyone complain and I certainly didn't intend to sound that way. Just longing for the enjoyment the cam brings.

Josh is doing a fine job, just underfunded.

I'd like to donate to Josh. However, the $300 I put into the first project (pre-Josh) was kind of my budget for such things and the hardware I'd be happy to throw at this would be embarrassingly old dinosaur gear. I'm not sure it'd be doing Joshy any favors?

It sounds like the think-tank is firing up some great spirit of collaboration though - good for you all!

Thanks Dan.

Donations are always greatly welcome (considering I pay for the server bill).

Currently I have the computer, software, and battery backup. Due to the camera being removed from Main Street Grind (without prior notice to me), I've decided to go my own route with a new camera and possibly a new location.

Ideas are welcome for a location. I personally think watching the multiple semi's a year collide into the underpass would be entertaining, or possibly have a location farther down from MSG.

Kick The Can Cam: Garfield School playground.

Cigarette Kid Cam: Tree across the street from the High School.

The Ron, George, and Bob Variety Roundtable Cam: Every morning 7am-9:30am third booth on the left 600 Cafe cam. Coffee Refills should get their own cam.

Stan The Man Cam: Stan Wheeler's house - be sure to wear eye protection if he's chopping firewood.

Or just mount one to the dashboard of Josh's car and tether it to the laptop and we could have a Mobile Miles Cam as he drives around town.

Thanks Dan
But as long as they have the eye protection on they might as well grab an axe and help out with the chopping. I am getting older and can use some help with the wood chopping.

That made me laugh Frank.

And I'm looking at a indoor, automatically adjusting HD webcam.

Frank Hardy, any one of your posts that are even remotely mistaken foras containing any sign of intelligence are welcome to be included by me. I think its hilarious to simply watchdon't your first grade dialogue and how inherently pleased you seem to be with the nothingness it truly means.

We need a cam inside the Montana so we can watch the bartender do a favor and take Ashley's phone from her after she has a can of near-beer.

AshleyDawn, you seem to think this thread is about you. Sadly, it's not. But if you want a thread about you, I'm sure a MilesCity.com associate will be more than happy to assist.

In other words, GTFO this thread.
