What has happen to our community???????

Wow so it has come to this? Reading the posts on miles city dot com saddens me.I have not lived here very long but for being such a small community where most folks have gown up in and know one another pretty well we sure do find things to bitch and complain about. What kind of a community do we live in where a child lay in the street having a seizure and a neighbor stands and watches and continues to water his lawn and dose not drop everything to help a child?Post after post I have read we put each other down because you did not like someones sentence structure or spelling? I know times are changing and we don't live in the Andy Griffith era any more where you sit on your front porch drinking lemonade and chatting with your neighbor but come on people are we really that selfish and self absorbed that we can not show some respect and compassion and lend a helping hand to our neighbor? I challenge you to take responsibility for your actions and maybe pull the beam out of your own eye before you pull the splinter out of someone elses. Would it be the end of the world if you actually forgave your neighbor for that arguement you had 5 years ago and have been holding a grudge over? Would it kill you to treat others as you would like to be treated? Start with the face in the mirror and see if it might catch on maybe Miles City could start a whole new fad and treat each other with respect and compassion and be a example to other communities....Just something to think about!!!!

There is an old story about this theme. A fellow went into a bar and sat by an old timer. He asked the old timer if he had lived there long. The old timer said he had all of his life. The questioner then asked if he considered the people friendly. The old timer asked how the folks were where the guy came from and was answered that they were terrible.
The old guy told the man that that's pretty much how the people were around here too. So the man left.
Another guy shows up with much the same question. Again the old timer asked how the folks were in his home town. The answer was that they were all good people. The old timer told him that was pretty much the way people were around there too. And the guy left.

Another patron of the bar inquired about why the old timer told each guy something different. Because, said the old timer, people will fulfill their expectations of what encounter.

Bill is spot on his with his comment.

I don't think the posts here (excepting maybe the classifieds) are really representative of Miles. Heck many of the people who post no longer live in Miles (myself included).

It's always good to keep in mind that the internet doesn't necessarily reflect reality.

Much of what gets posted to the internet gets said not because it should be said, but because it can be said.

And because it's the internet, you have to learn to filter what you see - most of it can & should be ignored.

The community hasn't changed one iota since I was a kid here. Only the mode of communication has changed.

Online forums are where people express their opinions and often argue politics and religion. It doesn't matter if it is milescity.com or the Gazette blogs or any other blog.

As for the rest, I agree that there are those who live to simply cut others down for their spelling and grammar. They need to realize that spelling comes easily for some and is just plain difficult for others.

There is a LOT of dirty laundry aired on here because people need an outlet. Much of it is inappropriate but this is an open forum.

I have started several different threads that were instantly highjacked by those who live to do that. It seems no matter what the topic they feel the need to make the topic what THEY want it to be. So I just don't respond and move on.

This is online. It's a different world.

As for what is going on in Miles City in the real world, I agree. Perhaps you could start a real group with actual people who live there to try and better Miles City and it's image. I know there are a lot of people like you who would join.

Good post. Thank you.

I would hope that Miles City is a little more tolerant and worldly than is used to be. But the internet can't substitute for personal exposure to other cultures and peoples and Miles City is otherwise pretty isolated. I'm sure there are plenty of ignorant jerks still there.

from someone who has spent her life moving ~ Miles City is a good place to live. People are people in a small town or big town. There will always be the good, the bad, and the ugly...the small few that post on this forum do not seem to represent the real Miles City. We have the best neighbors that we could ask for, and enjoy living here. It is not easy to "break in" when you are from out of town in ANY small town...but MC is a friendly place. Things have changed from what they used to be here, I am sure...times change and they always will.

Good Post. I think most of what I have encountered in Miles City is either generally caring neighborly folks, or the bored gossips who love to create drama. All in all, I think this site misrepresents the majority of the good folk of Miles City. I love this town for it's kind people. Hate it for it's lack of culture however....
