Am I right in being told that if you have a sign for someone running for office, either they have asked youfor support or you said you would support them by placing a sign in your yard? Wednesday when I woke up, I found a "GRENZ for MAYOR" sign in my yard. How is it possible or right for someone to place this sign in my yard without my permission? Whether or not I choose to vote for Grenz, I will proudly say um NO! that's not the point. Whoever placed this sign in my yard, tresspassed & violated my rights. That sign is now in the garbage, money down the drain for Grenz. Good luck to all the other candidates. Butch Grenz never had my vote & will not get my vote.

Imagine the fun kids might have moving campaign or real estate signs around at night.

Around here (not in MT) it works this way:

The sign-nuisances put signs on the boulevard (considered a city right-of-way). Even though I mow that lawn, trim the trees, etc. it technically belongs to the city. That's their justification for not asking my permission. We live in a nice neighborhood on a corner lot - you can imagine corner residences tend to be preferred locations for such things.

However, the City says they never do give permission because they don't allow such things. So, if they were asked the answer would be "no." Of course, they rarely get asked by these people.

So, they recommend to me that I either call them (the City) and they'll send truck out to collect the sign/s. If I don't want to wait whatever length of time that might be I can feel free to remove the sign itself but recommend putting it away - not throwing it away as it's technically the property of the person who put it there.

The circular irony is that if the inconsiderate person were to complain I stole their sign anyway the fine they would get for basically admitting they put it there would exceed whatever the city might do with me. Either way, I tend to just call the City and have them remove them - plus they could begin a record of nuisances and deal with it if it continued.

If the signs were placed from the sidewalk-inward toward my house - that, indeed, would be my property and I could play the game a bit differently and they would have trespassed.

Where, precisely, was the sign placed - your yard or the boulevard? I don't recall - what does MC consider City property in terms of the sidewalk-to-curb?

ok, so i forgot the blvd isn't my yard exactly. my garbage hasn't been picked up yet either. I just think it's bogus that they decided that my yard or blvd shows my support for him. i don't support him in anyway. not even in his businesses. i'd be glad to report it to the city. i sure don't want him back in office again. i'm pretty sure the other candidates are honest about the placements of their signs.

Have you had this conversation with Mr. Grenz? He may have not put that sign in your yard. Quick to judge?

I, for one, prefer our current Mayor. Joe has his faults, but overall he has done good. And he wears a suit.

There are a lot of great people that do not wear a suit, a suit doesn't make you a better person, there seem to be a few people out there that do wear suits, and god forbid they be our mayor just for their suit....

Since you have publicly stated your support, perhaps you can publicly provide two or three reasons why you support him. How is better off with Butch as the Mayor?

The reasons will be something like:

1. I am Butch Grenz
2. I am related to Butch Grenz
3. I am employed by Butch Grenz

Butch rules the breakfast game, the politics game? Not so much.

I don't know if the city of Miles City can afford to have Butch as mayor again or not, but as a fomer resident I will tell you that Butch makes for great reading in the Miles City Star. If I lived in Miles City, I would vote for Butch just for a giggle and see what he is going to say next.

If memory serves me correctly, didn't Miles City have to pay out a huge settlement to someone for harrassment or something?? Cannot really remember...This was concerning Butch, I mean...

I can't believe Butch Grenz is running for Mayor again. Does he think we have such short memories that we won't remember the big lawsuit against the city he caused by harassing women, firing key city personnel just because he didn't get along with them, and the way he thrashed the city budget? He racked up plenty of lawsuits that had to be paid by the city (see 2 articles below). If anyone wants more information all you really have to do is do a search of his name on this site-it wasn't so long ago......

Miles City Mayor Butch Grenz
Miles City, MT: A Miles City employee has accepted a $20,000 offer of judgment to end a human rights case against her former mayor. The Montana Human Rights Bureau ruled that former Mayor Butch Grenz discriminated against city building inspector Joy Fleming and caused a hostile work environment. Grenz resigned in April 2006 after 15 months as mayor. Fleming, who is also the city's engineering technician, agreed to $20,000 plus attorney's fees to end the human rights case, said her attorney, Timothy Kelly. The city was also named as defendant in its' failing to take action on repeated complaints by those other than Fleming for similar discriminatory offenses. Police chief alleges discrimination by former mayor

MILES CITY - A man who resigned as mayor after state investigators found him guilty of discrimination against a female city building inspector is accused anew, this time by the woman who is the Miles City police chief.

A lawsuit filed in federal court by Chief Lissa Power names Chris "Butch" Grenz, who resigned in April after the state Human Rights Bureau ruled against him in a discrimination complaint. Grenz was major of Miles City for about 15 months.

Power alleges gender discrimination by Grenz. He made false and malicious statements about her, statements that included allegations of an improper relationship with one or more of her subordinates, and described her with an expletive, according to the lawsuit.

Grenz declined to comment Friday.

"I'm looking forward to my day in court," he said.

Mayor Joe Whalen declined to comment on behalf of the city, which was also named as a defendant for allegedly failing to address Grenz's conduct.

It says Grenz interfered with Power's performance of her duties. He breached the chain of command, got involved in investigations, presented himself as an acting police chief, threatened Power with dismissal and denied her proper compensation, according to the suit.

Power, chief for several years, is seeking damages from Grenz and the city, in sums to be determined by a jury.

Grenz's resignation in April came after the Human Rights Bureau found he discriminated against city building inspector Joy Fleming and caused a hostile work environment. Fleming said Grenz told the city engineer not to give her a job as building inspector because male construction contractors in the area would not listen to her.

She also accused Grenz of making derogatory references about women, and of telling vulgar and racist jokes.

Earlier the city paid a $12,000 settlement to former fire chief Brent Christopherson, who had filed a complaint accusing Grenz of creating a hostile work environment.

At Grenz's resignation, he denied calling Christopherson names and said he had been concerned for Fleming's personal safety. Grenz apologized "for any misunderstandings."

Gosh, I think someone started something here. Could it be that Grenz won't be getting the popular vote?

No...he will get the popular vote. That's the problem.

I could never vote for such a man...YUCK!! anyone that votes for him must be as much of a woman hater as he appears to be...plus noone could possibly change that much in such a short period with no therapy to help out, etc...so unless Miles City wants higher taxes to cover future complaints against the city, I would think twice about voting for this man...Any insurance company, given his track record as mayor last time, would probably have a problem covering future blunders...
