MCC Steers for Pioneers Program
Posted by MCC Endowment (+102) 12 years ago
The Steers for Pioneers program is a college fundraiser for the Miles Community College Ag program, Equine program and Men's & Women's Rodeo teams. Proceeds from the Steers for Pioneers program will be used for the recruitment of top area Ag students, Equine students, and Rodeo athletes. These funds will also be used for increased scholarships, procurement of practice stock, feed and any other supplies connected with these three departments. The program is a collaborative effort to give cattle producers additional options to support student success at MCC.

Feedlot Contest:
Cattle will be fed to optimum slaughter/market conditions and shipped to a packer that maximizes value received. Steers will be ranked according to average daily gain from receiving to shipping. The producers of the champion steer , as determined by feedlot performance, will be awarded a cash prize of 10% of the net total proceeds of the Steers for Pioneers program for that year and will be recognized at the annual MCC Buckaroo Bash fundraiser held each year in February. A belt buckle will be awarded to the donor of the champion and reserve steer. A jacket will be given to all participants.

At the annual MCC Buckaroo Bash, which will be held February 12, 2011, donors and others will have a chance to take part in the contest through a Calcutta on the steers in the program for that year. The 1st place winner of the champion steer will receive 50%, 2nd place winner will receive 20%, and third place winner will receive 10% of the proceeds of the Calcutta.

Donor Recognition:
Producers donating steers, other livestock, or equivalent dollars will receive a tax receipt for their donation and a listing on our MCC website. Producers will also be recognized during the MCC Rodeo Stampede, located at the Eastern Montana Fair Grounds in Miles City, and the Annual MCC Rodeo Buckaroo Bash, as well as listed in the rodeo program.
