When are they going to open the Dike road again it sure would be nice to be able to go fishing on the rivers once again.

When the rivers go down enough to reduce the risk of dike failure and the damage the prolonged high water was caused has been fixed. The way this year is going I would look for another spot to fish or finding a place to park and walk to the river.

We have fished the Tounge 3 times the last two weeks. We walked to our fishing spot. Everytime we went people have driven down the dike. We asked one man if they opened the dike and he said no and drove off like it didn't matter. I guess Miles City doesn't patrol the dike.

It seems as if it ought to be open by now. I'm sure the city is in no hurry to actually make any inprovements, if they are reaaly needed. It won't be long before those orange cones end up floating in an easterly direction.

Having seen the city crews working night and weekends and having taken photos that have run in the paper of the city crews working on the dike, I think they care about it very much. This is a very unusual year for river run. It is still at high spring stage and has been as high and near overflow as I have ever seen it in my 14 years here. Even though the water is not as near the top as it was been, the heavy flow is still doing damage. Some of the repair work has to be done with lower water levels. It have NOT been low yet this year. The city can not afford an officer constantly patrolling the dike. They are also needed all across town so could use some help like taking plate numbers and calling when you see someone on the dike. If the dike fails these individuals are partially responsible and you might want to know who they are when it comes time to pay for the clean-up. Remember more coverage means higher taxes to pay for it.

Haven't you gotten the memo Steve? Prosperity through Austerity. Surely the city has realized enough of a budget windfall through the elimination of the City County Planning Board to fund an extra policeman.

Or did the jackbooted thugs who run CCDHS steal all the money to pay for a narc resource officer?

There are certainly portions of the dike road that they have closed off that are no different now that before the high water. From Wells down and around to about Lewis doesn't seeem like it needed closed at all. I can see closing a section if it was in some sort of danger of collapse or some real danger to the citizens, but it sure seems that the emergency is over, and most of the road could be opened again. Is the next step to just permanently close the entire dike to traffic?

Where did you get your engineering degree Randall? Perhaps the city would be interested in retaining your consulting services.

Just out of curiosity, what fishing spot requires you to be able to drive on the dike? Unless I'm missing something, it seems like you could park near the dike and be within 50 yards of the River.
