Does anybody know why the city would begin work on Albert street the week before Memorial Day, then shut the road down with cones to never return again? Seriously this is getting old! This is going on the sixth week now with no signs of the city returning to reopen our street! PLEASE, CITY GET THE JOB DONE AND REOPEN OUR STREET!!!

Is part of Albert Street private property?

Not the part that is connected to Leighton. Albert is the main road to N. Custer, and both entrances to Albert's Trailer Court.

All of Albert Street is on BNSF right-of-way and is not a platted street. Gus Albert paved it many years ago and everybody sort of said, yeah, okay, why not. I have no idea what is going on repairwise, but it isn't a legal city street even if it provides the only access to some places.

Agree it isn't really a stree. It isn't even on the map. But it is bull that it isn't fixed yet. If they aren't goingto fix it let people use it as is. It is hell to get around. There are so many cars that aren't watching out for others!

Well the city crew were working on it so why don't they fix it. If it's not the city's responsibility then maybe we should just move the blockers and use it anyways.

Anyone caught moving public works barricades on Albert St. (or anywhere else) will be prosecuted. The City has several thousands of your dollars invested into the prep work for that paving project and work is scheduled to begin on July 15th.

The only paving contractor expressing a willingness this spring to bid on the project against our project timeline withdrew at the last minute. Another reputable paver has since agreed to take on the extra work but couldn't mobilize until the above date.

Be patient. That street was a complete wreck this spring but by the end of the month you'll have 1200 ft. of smooth, durable and safe blacktop for your neighborhood.

So there has been 5 different cars on that raod just today. No one out there watching or anything.....

5 cars at $150 fine each = $750, thats the deposit we need to get some one out here today! Haha

Mr. Mayor you said paving would begin July 15th, here it is July 25th and still no pavement. The road is still closed, what is the latest?

Bad weather slowing down the paving crew on other projects, perhaps?

Wow, a contractor running behind schedule. I have never, ever heard of such a thing! Imagine!

You know Amorette your smugness is really a turn off! The question was asked, it doesn't affect you it affects all the rest of us who live in and around the Albert St. area! You seem to think that you are the final authority/voice on all things that happen in and around MC, and it gets real old real fast!!! This is a legitimate safety issue around here, several kids have almost been hit due to people speeding around the road blocks, so until you've walked a mile in my shoes....step off!!!

So we'll be prosecuted for moving barricades that we paid for to be put there. Interesting how life works.

There is a city council meeting this evening at 7pm. Why don't you go there and ask what is going on and how long it will take?

Albert St. was on the agenda. Based on the work I see around town, the paving company must be in town!

Mary, it was a legitimate question, with a poor sarcastic answer. The citizens deserve to know why there is a delay on the project. Thanks for voicing your opinion Mary because I have felt the same for a while .

If a citizen wants to know about something they need to contact city hall or go to a council meeting. Posting on Miles City dot com only gets you rumors and opinions. They can be useful and fun but not an official response to any real question of concern. By the way I have noticed several patch areas being prepared across town so suspect the paving crew is either working or coming soon. (see rumor not official)

Since I'm the one who raised hopes for a scheduled paving on Albert St. beginning July 15, I'd like to address the delay being discussed and the ongoing closure of Albert St.

The short version is that the City was notified by Century Construction on July 18 that the mobilization date for the paving of Albert St. had been set back to August 30. In my earlier post of July 8, I delivered the freshest information available to us from the paving contractor. We continue to try and negotiate an earlier start date.

Meanwhile, our Public Works staff, the City Council and I all agree that opening Albert St. would create an unacceptable liability for Miles City and add unnecessary costs to the project so we've determined that Albert St. will remain closed until the the paving is completed in September. We do acknowledge that the additional delay creates a real inconvenience for those who would otherwise regularly use Albert St.

I wish I had better news but we're really at the mercy of a very few paving contractors willing to bid small urban projects. If there's a change of schedule, I'll keep you posted.

almost every single day somebody moves or destroys more barricades at the construction site. sometimes multiple times a day. what those individuals doing that don't understand is that every time they drive across the road it will slow down the process when they start back up on construction.

Anything new here? Its September now.
