Although I am not a father, I just finished a fantastic Father's Day dish.
My wife and I spent the morning trimming the sidewalk. Lots of overgrown sod to load. I shoveled it off at the Helena transfer station, and then we headed to Costco.
There, we saw a 4 lb. flat of strawberrys for $5.99. "Should we buy it?" Karen asks me. Always the frugal one, I told her they would only grow fuzz on the counter. She retorted, "What if I bake a strawberry-rhubarb pie?"
All bets were off.
We returned from said megabox store, and Karen went immediately to the garden. I asked, "Can I get you a knife?" She laughed, as she broke all the rhubarb stalks by hand.
Here it is several hours later....and I just polished off a slice of the BEST STRAWBERRY RHUBARB PIE EVER!!!! Oh, and if you are wondering what gives me the right to make such a statement, I AM BETTY EMILSSON'S SON!!! (Sorry, mom, but Karen has perfected this pie......I think using rhubarb that was alive 3 hours ago might give her an unfair advantage, though).
