What to do about harrassment?
Posted by snorkie (+103) 10 years ago
Ok so I have a huge problem. My ex is harrassing me and one of my friends to the point that neither of us can live at our homes. We have both turned him in to law enforcement and they say they can do nothing. He has posted all sorts of stuff on facebook and verbally has indicated he wants to injure both of us. CNADA can't help...they say go to the police. I turned the threats in to facebook and they did nothing. WHAT DO I DO? I don't want to be the next Hazel...

Try the police again, if they don't do crap, have a lawyer assist in getting a restraining order.. if you got letters and stuff from him saying he intends to harm you, then you should have no problem at all getting a restraining order. If he comes on your property call the cops turn him in for trespassing.

I wish you luck and godspeed in getting this taken care of, no one should have to live life in fear.

make a new facebook account and make your current one inoperative...don't accept any friends on it and make it very private...petition the court for a restraining order...easy to do on your own without an attorney...find several cowboys that are the "Uncle Guido" alternative in Miles City that would enjoy putting a hurt on him.... (last suggestion would fall under the heading of "final option"....)

yeah I thought about suggesting you your "final" suggestion as well howdy, but didn't think it would be a wise path

I will call the police again on monday....they claim it isn't stalking because he lives 3 blocks away. They also claim that because he doesn't specifially say my full name or my friends full name that it could be anyone. Any 10 year old in town could read his postings and be able to tell who it is and where they live. I'm at my rope's end here.

If he is posting the threats on Facebook or somewhere else print them out, take them with you when you talk to police or lawyers. physical evidence helps a lot in the legal system. He said-she said is hard for police and the legal system to deal with. Anything else, like answering machine tapes, that back up your claims should also be kept.

You do not need the police to help. Go to the judge's office and ask to apply for a restraining order. The police department does not do that Once you have the restraining order in hand (take everyone who is being threatened with you to get the order) then you only need call the police if he shows up and violates the order.

I believe there is a cyber harrassment law. Also if he texts you save them also. The judge likes you to have everything in order when you go see him.

Maybe on your Facebook page, you show that you have friended some wiseguys with names like "Guido", "Fat Tony", and "Jimmy Scissorhands", that might teach that good-for-nothing punk to leave you alone.

Have you Explored the " Account Settings on Facebook " "Privacy settings" Then edit your blocked list?

Remember you have the power to enable or disable. Don't let them dictate your life, you are in control not them.

The Restraining Order from the court will help as saying go away.

Hopefully you will get this solved.

As the Director of CNADA, I am concerned that you feel CNADA did not help you. You are welcome to call the office and speak with me about the struggles you are having (234-0542). The first concern is for your safety. Have you thought of getting an anti-stalking notice from law enforcement? This simple form takes only a moment to fill out and can be served on a person by law enforcement or through certified mail/return receipt. An advocate can accompany you to report to an officer and get a notice. The notice is not a court order, but a pre-printed letter that asks the harasser to stop contacting, following or otherwise harassing you. If the behavior continues, you then have grounds to file for an Order of Protection based on stalking. CNADA will be happy to assist you further if you wish.

CNADA has done nothing for me either. I have been in the same boat as you girl for the last 2 1/2 years. Nothing will get done. I have tried. I have kept paper work, I have kept messages, I have had him served with notices and fines.... Violation of Tellecomunications..... But there is nohting else they can do. So, yes all there is the feeling that we might be the next Hazel... But what else? No clue. I have tired the court order also. Sence I Have children with my Ex I was told that htey cant do that for the childrens sake... Well, BULL POOP! There should be something when there are other poeple that are out there that tell the cops alos that this is going on. Sorry, but most people have better things to do then sit at home and think of what the put on their Exs! PLEASE!

CNADA helps those they choose to help, not everyone who needs it. Be cautious in what you say to them. You never know whose side they are really on.

that is a pretty damning statement to make about them IMO...Usually any organization like that is sterling in any community and the lives they save are countless...Why would you feel differently about this one??

CNADA cannot stop the harrasser from harrassing. They can only go through the steps with the abused to make the situation better. If you are not willing to go through the steps, I'm pretty sure no organization is going to be able to assist you.

I really suggest you give Caroline a call. She knows her stuff and does great work for this program.
