So many people take pride, and work very hard to keep our community looking nice. They have a "Yard of the Week".Maybe there should be a "Dump of the Month".

Maybe the community should nominate someone, let them know and then tell them if they don't clean up their yard in say a month's time that a photo of their yard will go in the Star.

Kacey: You can be the one to tell Mr. Allison he has to go take pictures of Mr. Shipley's yard. Doubt either would be happy about it.

take a picture of it, and buy an ad in the Star. A "do it yourself" dump of the month award.

Maybe the person is physically unable to clean up their yard. Maybe the person is mentally ill. Maybe they know their yard is a mess but there are reasons YOU don't know that they are unable to care for it.

And no, the Star would not run a Dump of the Day even in an ad. Ask your lawyer if you can't figure that one out.

Regardless of a person's problems, their property should be maintained in a manner that is not offensive to their neighbors and the general public. We wouldn't let someone make excuses for failing to take care of their kids or pets, why allow such an excuse for having a bunch of crap in their overgrown lawn?

I guess we should make mentally ill or physically disabled people live in apartments to prevent them from offending their neighbors with a messy lawn.

Brilliant idea.

If they can't care for a home (personally or with the assistance of others) and live independently, assisted living arrangements should be made.

And this will be paid for by what means?

I am trying to find someone to clean up my weed patch and I know it will cost several hundred dollars to hire someone. What if I can't afford to hire someone? Will you do it for free? Will the government do it? If the government does it, who pays for it?

I wish my yard was the envy of the neighborhood but time, money and decrepitude make that impossible. It is very possible that some of those other yards fall into the same category. Taking their yard away from them hardly seems fair but how should it be handled? And, again, there are people who are mentally ill and don't see their treasures as mess. How do you deal with them?

Life, sadly, is so much more complicated than we wish it to be.

Of course nothing is simple.

Disabled is one thing - and I'd venture a guess that if someone posted on here "I'm physically disabled and unable to afford to pay someone to cut my grass. Would anyone be willing to mow it down once a month for me?" that there would be a response.

As for someone who is "mentally ill" and just desires to have piles and piles of garbage in their lawn, I don't feel much sympathy. Perhaps we should call the folks at "Hoarders" and have them come shoot an episode and do a cleanup?

The Miles City dump is kept up better than some.Driving past auto dismantlers on is a damn dump site. They should clean it up or burn it.

There are plenty of able people in town who don't take care of their yards.I live next to someone who can't and,I would help him all i could.People know who can and can't.
