Online County History Books

Great new online resources from Montana Historical Society's website:

"With a generous grant from Humanities Montana, the Society recently digitized 23 Montana county history books comprising more than 11,000 pages. These books are now available on the Montana Memory Project, an online tool that enables users to type a search term and instantly retrieve any page on which the term appears. A treasure trove for family historians with Montana roots, the collection currently includes histories of Big Horn, Blaine, Dawson, Fallon, Garfield, Hill, Lincoln, McCone, Musselshell, Pondera, Prairie, Richland, Roosevelt, Sheridan, Stillwater, Toole, Treasure, Wheatland and Wibaux counties."

Cindy...I just have to thank you again. The Toole County book has proven to be a lot of fun for friends and friends of friends. I found "Pages of Time" at the following website. A Petroleum County history book in case anyone is interested.

You are very welcome. Sorry I didn't notice the Society had completed scanning until a few days ago. I've been stuck in a quagmire researching gold rush Deadwood families.

Nothing like genealogy, is there? My son and I have finished both sides of my family...and, in the process have crossed trees with some very interesting relatives on both sides. We now have pictures that we would never have seen otherwise. Ancestry.com and The Family Tree Maker have been invaluable. Thanks for your help as well. You get to see the strength of the people who made it to this land at difficult times in their countries, who worked hard in getting settled in America. I doubt that we will ever know the tough times that they survived. It also puts a perspective on people wanting to move to this country.

Appreciate your sharing.

Wow, that's a wonderful site and browsing it for just a short time brought back some great memories. In addition to the county histories there are some newspaper scans, old photos and I don't know what else because I've barely scratched the surface.
