I remember in the mid 70's while I was working at Big Sky Pharmacy when all of the downtown stores closed for business on Good Friday at 3:00 in the afternoon in honor of that being the time that Jesus died on the cross.

Can you imagine that happening today?

I believe Fox News has higher ratings but not more viewers than all the other 24-hour cable news channels combined.

Fox News is popular amongst the gray-haired set that sits at home all day glued to Fox News. That boosts their ratings. The other cable news channels combined have more viewers with less TV watching time on their hands and hence lower ratings.

Fox News has a dedicated bunch of viewers that put in lots of hours. The other cable news channels combined have more viewers but they are less dedicated viewers. You know, they are more diverse and more likely to get their news from multiple sources -- less "set in their ways".

This grey hairwhite haired lady wouldn't watch Fox News if it was the only channel on tv...YUCK..but I think you are right as there are many conservative older folks watching it religiously and believing every word...sad...

Fox News gets high ratings because the damn thing is on where ever you go. Airports, appliance stores etc. It's even on half the tvs
in the gym where I workout. Must say it often gets the pulse and heart rate up there. I don't watch any news station commentators at
home , liberal or conservative. I don't need someone to tell me
how or what to think. Give me straight news and I can decide.

Back to the original thread. Yeah, I remember in the last part of the sixties through the early seventies everything shutting down
for the Easter weekend. I believe we even got out of school at
noon on Good Friday.

Bridgier, I'll put my education against yours anytime. In answer to your question, The gov't should not mandate that on any business, for example the Catholic hospitals because it is against the church teachings. If Obama care is going to stand they have to make exceptions otherwise they are treading on religous freedoms which is guarunteed in our Declaration of independence and our Constitution. (Of course there are those who think we should throw the Declaration and Constitution in the trash)....korkyII

I'm sorry Korky...you will lose. Not because I'm smarter than the average bear (which I am), but because you're an easily manipulated Fox-watching moran. Your regurgitation of the US Council of Bishop's talking points confirms it. I'm sorry, but you didn't surprise me at all.

How fcking hard can it be to understand that, if someone takes federal money, they are bound by federal rules?

Was that 3:00 GMT, Pacific, Rocky Mountain time or ???? Which side of the international date line? Did it start with the first nail or the final breath?

Centurion one; "What time is it Flavious?"
Centurion two; "I've got 3:00 but the tip is broken on my sun dial. I could be five minutes off, one way or the other."
Centurion one; "Well, lets get started. Who brought the vinegar and thorns? I want to get this over with and get to the orgy before the virgins are all gone."

I mean, really? three o'clock, really?

I'm sorry too Bridgier because if you went to school you wasted your money. It's obvious to the most casual observer that anyone who posts a tirade like you just did is not very smart. korky my friend - I have not vented forth a tirade on mc.com in a very long time. I'll admit - you and the kevlar-esque mythology to which you ascribe have brought me close, oh so very close to a righteous jeremiad... but life's to short to argue with people who cannot or will not actually engage in honest disputation. I could lay out objective facts, you would dismiss them. I could present chains of logic, you would ignore them.

You have put your hope and trust in people who use you for your vote while they mine the 98% for the equity in whatever assets we've managed to accumulate - and when they get caught with our wallets in their greedy porcine hands, they send the good little capo's (such as yourself) out to defend them, to cry "Socialism!!!" and "Obamacare!!!" (as, lest we forget, you collect your pensions and medicaid) and gnash your teeth about the deficit and wail about birth certificates.

They send you forth to tell us that we should love jesus more because that's why we're becoming poorer per capita as a nation, that if only we were right with God we'd surely have no need for welfare or health insurance.

The rubes have been convinced that it's the economic outcomes that should be entwined with morality, not the inputs, not the well-spoken men in nice suits who go to the right churches and assure you that all will be better if you just work harder, if you just take a job, any job, even if it means that you will never, ever be as well off as you were two years ago, even if it means that the window of opportunity for your kids or your grandkids will shrink a little bit more (and let's be honest, it was already smaller than the one your grandparents created for you out of the rubble of the great depression).

You are on your own! they say, and they want you to believe that, because it makes it so much easier for the wolves to eat when the sheep believe that the herd is a lie and a sin.

A white-washed tomb upon a hill korky - that is what I think of your beliefs and your leaders and your saints.

I'm going to chime in here, regarding first amendment rights...

Dear Editor:

I am writing today to comment about the Whitefish Jesus Statue, sitting on land owned by all Americans. I find it curious that Christians, and in this case Catholics in particular, want to have things both ways. First they want to violate the First Amendment to the Constitution by keeping the Jesus statue on federal land. Now, they are claiming their First Amendment rights are being violated because President Obama's administration made a rule mandating coverage for contraceptives for those offering insurance. So do you want the government and religion to mix or not? You can't have it both ways.

I find it hard that so many struggle with the basic concept of the other "Golden Rule"... he who is entrusted with the gold makes the rules. If you don't want to be bound by federal regulations, don't accept public funding.

Bob L. You can call it stealing all you want. If I am stealing then all those that served and retired are stealing according to you. Sounds like you expect all the military that spend 20 to 30 yrs of their lives to just do it all for nothing. In fact, the way you sound, you think those that are serving at all should just donate their time. You are beginning to sound anti military ? I wonder if you were even in the military ? Thankfully, I was never in harms way.

IMO, the whole point Bob L is trying to make is, Don't judge folks by calculating whether they paid enough taxes or not...Poor people and lots of the middle class have their plates very full and can only afford what they can afford...and thus you shouldn't bitch about government programs that help them because they need the help...that is a good thing IMO...If I misinterpreted, Bob, let me know LOL...

Then Bob L jumped in bragging about his fabulous income trying to impress everyone with his jibberish crap. I have no problem with people drawing a pension from the gov't, a lot of people do, it was offered and they earned it. I don't have a problem with our gov't helping those in need UNTIL they can get back on their feet. I do have a problem with freeloaders and people who think the Gov't owes it to them....korkyII

When all else fails, blame it all on Fox News, and when that fails blame it on anybody that happens to be nearby, I know, I know it's not your fault. Why don't you blame it on the senate ? they aren't doing anything, Blame it on the House they aren't voting the way the left wingers want them to. I agree, they need to close the loopholes..etc..and make the super rich and big corporations pay their fair share in taxes. The bottom line is the current administration and congress isn't doing it. I agree it's not right that the middle class pays a higher percentage in income tax than the rich, but until our elected officials change the current legislation it's not going to change....korkyII
