Anyone giving anything up for Lent?
Posted by Mandyrosy (+195) 12 years ago
Just curious!

I'm interested in the idea of sacrificing something during Lent to appreciate it/your life more. Although I'm not really Catholic, I have observed Lent in the past by giving up things like coffee (hard!) and chocolate. I've also toyed with the idea of fasting during Ramadan (although I'm not Muslim, either).

Anybody else appreciate the idea of the religious fast or sacrifice? And what do you think it does for the individual who participates?

I usually stick with traditional animal sacrifice. In the past I've noticed higher yields from my crops and clearer skin.

Bart has given up coffee and that was just sad. Since he has the cold right now, I have no doubt he NEEDS his coffee. He the girls often give up chocolate or desserts.

Well, since you asked...

The last couple years for Lent, in-particular, I've given up caffeine one year, alcohol another year, movies one year (read books instead), and some other stuff.

Lent isn't necessarily about giving something up, you can take-up a new habit, too...that's what I'm thinking about doing this year: gonna do my half-hour on the cross-trainer every day while praying for someone who I think could use it.

I've tried giving up some stuff for lent, but it works best if I replace it with something positive. I tried to give up "always getting in the last word" and replaced it with "listening with my heart.."

In the past I've tried to give up being so good looking.. however it didn't work out so well. I consulted a doctor and found out that it's hereditary, and nothing can be done about it.

And in a few short years, you will be bald and fat like the rest of us.
