Good Samaritan
Posted by mike newell (+346) 12 years ago
I know this is an MC site (I live in Forsyth) but I have to post a thank you to a man that helped me with my vehicle troubles tonight(I know the username says mike: I'm his wife). I went into town (Forsyth) to get my mail and on the way home at a Main Street intersection my gas tank fell off my truck only still barely attached, but I couldn't even get off the street without causing further damage. This man stopped, crawled under my truck and tied up the tank with a tow rope I had. My friend who was with me went into a bar close by to ask for help and only found rudeness from a couple of patrons.
Thank you whoever you are with helping me to get my POS truck (lol) going so my friend, my children, and I could make it home.

That should be one of those pay it forward stories. You do something out of your way for the next guy (or woman). Love those stories.

That's a great story!

If I may, I'll tag my good Samaritan stories onto yours.

A couple of weeks ago, someone left a big bag of coupons in a bag on my door, and later, a woman (maybe the same person?) dropped off a bunch more coupons to my husband. They were very much appreciated!

And on Valentine's Day, we received an anonymous card from a neighbor with a WalMart gift card inside. What a wonderful surprise!

I love living here.

You know, I moved out here from Minnesota in August last year and one thing that I have noticed about the people of this area is that everyone waves as we pass them driving down the road. It surprised me; I've gotten used to it now and have gotten in the habit of waving to people as I pass as well. I just love how friendly most folks are around here.

That is one of the biggest things I miss about "home". Down here in Texas no one waves, they just stare and try to figure out where they know you from. They also are not very accepting to a strong, young Montana boy stopping to help them get their truck back on the road because they don't know how to drive in the snow!

Speaking of not knowing how to drive in the snow, I am a little peeved at some of these drivers out here. We were trying to drive at a safe speed yesterday while making a trip to MC when we got all that snow and there were cars passing us left and right driving like a bat out of hell. We got passed by a semi that dang near pushed us off the road. I don't care what anyone says: NO DEADLINE is worth your or someone else's life. No I am not gonna start trash talking truck drivers because my husband happens to be one and its infuriating when I see other drivers like that giving the good ones this bad image. Not that my complaining will change anything... So I just want to say when the roads are bad (I know people out here aren't used to this much smow) please use your common sense and drive safely. Just because the speed limit is 75 mph doesnt mean you have to drive that fast all the time. Like I said, a deadline is not worth your life and if you drive crazy then you are endangering other people as well as yourself.

If any state troopers read this, here's an idea: Invest in some high power snowmobiles and snag these asinine individuals for reckless endangerment.

I am envisioning a new TV drama: "Ice Chips".

There was an accident in Billings yesterday when a Highway Patrol officer, trying to help one person who ran off the road because she was dumb enough to be driving with her cruise control on in the weather we had yesterday, got hit by another car driven by another idiot who was driving with their cruise control on in the crappy weather we had yesterday.

To Amorette:

We passed an overturned semi laying in the median on our way to MC. You'd think that other truckers would see that (and others for that matter) and think "wow, maybe I should take it easy!" I wish it worked that way. And how stupid can people get by using their cruise control when its so easy to LOSE control!?

If you see truckers driving in a dangerous fashion call the number on the truck and report them. Almost all trucks have the business number on the truck these days.

Good idea... assuming they are driving slow enough that you can write the number down.
