Martin Luther was excommunicated. Do Lutherans do anything special for this occasion? I must ask my husband if gifts are appropriate.

Eat a "Diet of Worms" and maybe drink a beer or two.

We Lutherans usually prepare a nice jello marshmallow salad for dessert on this day to mark the occasion. Some of us might even bake a casserole that uses a can of cream of mushroom soup.

Just any old cream of mushroom soup, or the kind called for in the cat recipe?

Now, Jeff....we're talking Lutheran cuisine in this thread.

I think Lutheran cuisine is about as far away from Korean cuisine as you can get.

Furthermore, I think the phrase "Lutheran cuisine" is an oxymoron.

There are two recipes for "Lutheran cuisine":

1. sour kraut casserole
2. sour kraut casserole with mushroom soup.

The good news is that there will be German chocolate cake and pie for desert. And best of all, you can wash it all down with beer.

Scandinavian Lutherans are not sauerkraut eaters. Lefse, yes, sauerkraut, no. But Lutheran binder a.k.a cream of mushroom soup is universal. Ask Garrison Keillor.

Ah Richard, the word is dessert, not desert. You may have been too eager to include the beer.

If you live in Minnesota (home to MANY Lutherans), you know it is 'hotdish' and not casserole. Jello is also a required 'dish' for any Lutheran gathering. :-)
