The old thread is getting a bit cumbersome so I thought I'd make a fresh one for the new year. For those that aren't aware, there is a daily trivia contest that a number of people here participate in. Anyone who reads MC.com is welcome to participate, just go to the URL below and sign up.

Congratulations to a first time champion in December, MardeeG! 4-time champ Bridgier was back on his game this month, but Mardee managed to squeak it out.

Thanks everybody for playing, good luck in 2011.

Thanks again Levi for running this. It occupies about 5 minutes of my day and I have only gotten worse as time goes on.

I enjoy it and my wife has even tried it a time or two as well.

9. GunnarE (352 points, 0 wins)
10. Lilly1 (349 points, 1 wins)

Also, it's been a long time since we shuffled categories, mostly due to my laziness. I'm still fairly content with the current ones, but I know some people aren't and it's probably past time to mix them up.

Here's our current lineup:

Our Category Schedule:
Sunday: Science & Technology 3 : Difficult
Monday: General Knowledge 5 : Difficult
Tuesday: World Trivia 2 : More Difficult
Wednesday: History 2 : Intermediate
Thursday: General Knowledge 5 : Difficult
Friday: Animals
Saturday: Music 2 : Intermediate

And here's the available categories:

As usual, I reserve the right to make the final picks but I will try to accommodate everyone who gives me some feedback here.

Out with Music and animals.

In with religion and general sports.

I think animals is too easy, and I get a lot of repeat questions in that one. I would like something new just to see what some of the others are like but don't have any specific suggestions.

We have done hobbies before and it's kind of an odd category. Lots of stuff like sewing and lots of "huh?" questions.

I am thinking we should kick at least one of the general trivia days up to level 6 since that still seems to be one of the easier categories.

I agree with making the General category harder.

Definitely get rid of Animals. Too many repeat questions. Just look at yesterday's scores.

I vote for Geography. Religion would be okay, but I certainly would suck at it. Sports would be okay, too....except knowing this quiz, I'm sure there would be too many questions about cricket and soccer.

Gunnar, you just have to remember that each bowler throws one over, and that bodyline bowling almost caused a diplomatic incident, and you'll do fine with cricket.

You can dump animals if you like. Make one General Knowledge more difficult. But NO SPORTS!!!!!!! Make music harder, maybe?

Happy May everybody. Bridgier made it 3 in a row in April. Somebody better step it up! I would do it myself but I am obviously too scatterbrained to even remember to play every day, let alone pick the right answers. Here's the top 10 for April:

Apr 11

48 players played during the month.

1. Bridgier (516 points, 4 wins)
2. ingride (490 points, 2 wins)
3. snorkie (445 points, 3 wins)
4. emeney3 (443 points, 8 wins)
5. benjamaniac (425 points, 1 wins)
6. GunnarE (409 points, 2 wins)
7. mrsdoodlepunk (367 points, 2 wins)
8. andersonska (349 points, 0 wins)
9. bigdave (339 points, 1 wins)
10. Lilly1 (332 points, 2 wins)

And here's the category lineup for May:

Our Category Schedule:
Sunday: Science & Technology 3 : Difficult
Monday: General Knowledge 6 : Very Difficult
Tuesday: World Trivia 2 : More Difficult
Wednesday: History 2 : Intermediate
Thursday: General Knowledge 5 : Difficult
Friday: Religion 2 : More Difficult
Saturday: People 2 : More Difficult

"People" on Saturday I just kind of threw in at the last minute. If you recall we talked about Saturday being a day for lighter topics. If it sucks I promise you won't be stuck with it for 6 months. I will make a point of having this discussion again at the end of May.

Thanks for playing everybody.

Sorry I was too busy with branding to post that Ingrid E. broke Bridgier's 3 month winning streak and came out victorious in May.

47 players played during the month.

1. ingride (565 points, 5 wins)
2. Bridgier (509 points, 6 wins)
3. benjamaniac (449 points, 5 wins)
4. mrsdoodlepunk (430 points, 2 wins)
5. GunnarE (413 points, 3 wins)
6. bigdave (383 points, 1 wins)
7. snorkie (380 points, 0 wins)
8. Lilly1 (349 points, 2 wins)
9. SsquaredDesign (319 points, 2 wins)
10. smudge (307 points, 0 wins)

What does everyone think of the new categories? Seems to me that the game has gotten quite a bit more difficult with the changes. Not necessarily a bad thing but it's different.

Couple days late posting for July but Bridgier makes it 2 months in a row.

Jul 11

39 players played during the month.

1. Bridgier (462 points, 3 wins)
2. ingride (440 points, 2 wins)
3. GunnarE (410 points, 5 wins)
4. mrsdoodlepunk (404 points, 2 wins)
5. snorkie (378 points, 2 wins)
6. benjamaniac (367 points, 2 wins)
7. phile71 (338 points, 1 wins)
8. emeney3 (335 points, 3 wins)
9. havrezooks (299 points, 0 wins)
10. smudge (290 points, 1 wins)

How do people feel about the harder questions? It doesn't seem to have changed the leader board a whole lot but we do have fewer people playing than we did previously. I don't know if that has to do with the difficulty of the quiz or not.

What is hard for one is likely easy for someone else. Over the week I think the chance to win is pretty balanced. I say leave it alone for now.

Edit: It would be nice to have question that were in English and not French.

I agree with Richard. I think its great that you don't see a dozen or so scores of 10 anymore.

While I stink at some categories (Religion and Science/Technology), I don't mind them, as at least you never see many perfect scores in them.

I'm on the fence about the newer categories. I'd sure like the Music category back, if only because I do well there. {I don't miss the animal category.} But I guess overall it's ok.

Personally, I prefer "9 out of the last 13" to "Two in a row".

Now, the real question is, how many of these will I have to win before my opinions on topics sundry and diverse begin to receive the deference that is their due?
