From the Miles City Star
Blues guitarist Del Rey will make two appearances in Miles City in December, with a concert on Dec. 11 and a guitar and ukulele workshop on Dec. 12.
The concert on Saturday, Dec. 11, will open with a performance by local musician and songwriter Phil Smith at 8 p.m. in the fireside room at the Elks Lodge in Miles City. Following him, artist Del Rey will take the stage with the unmistakeable musical style that has earned her the title "Guitar Queen."
In addition to Saturday night's concert, Del Rey will teach a guitar and ukulele workshop to local musicians at the Custer County Art and Heritage Center on Sunday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m.
Participation in the workshop is free to concert attendees.
Del Rey started playing classical guitar when she was just 4 years old. As a teenager, she met bluesman Sam Chatmon and was inspired. Her guitar playing combines country blues, stride piano, classic jazz and hillbilly boogie, and the live show will be a mix of complex guitar grooves and sly humor.
The internationally known artist has performed at blues and ukulele festivals all over the world, including the Chicago Blues Festival, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and the Roots Festival in San Diego, Calif. Her work is recorded on five solo albums, "Blue Uke," "When The Levee Breaks," "X-Rey Guitar," "Hot Sauce" and "Boogie Mysterioso." In 2003 she released a collection of performances "Del Rey:Live."
The concert and workshop are sponsored by the Confluence, a performing arts group working to find a permanent home for live music and the arts in Miles City. The Confluence hosts Open Mic Night every Saturday at the Elks, where area artists have the opportunity to perform for the enjoyment of local residents and visitors.
Tickets are available at Kafé Utza and Buy Montana or online at http://confluenceperformingarts.com.

Yeah, but you can hear the tinkling of the slots at the Stockman's, Steve.

Stockmans, the Commercial, Liberal Slots, the Red Lion --- hell, even the CVS and K-Mart have one-armed bandits. It's quite amazing and totally perplexing to me.

Biggest benefit for yours truly - almost all of the restaurants in Elko are open 24 hours to serve the hordes of hungry gamblers. That's a huge difference from Miles City, where even most of the 7-11s were only open until 10!

What is wrong with having the permanent home for Confluence being at the ELKS? I love that building. Reminds me of the old theatres they fix up and use for stage productions in the big cities.

This happens tonight & tickets are still available. After your photos have been taken at Jules Photography & Gallery (before 6 p.m.), grab a bite and join us at the Elks. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Del Rey's in town. She rode the Empire Builder in from Seattle and drove through the storm from Williston to entertain us tonight. Let's show her a hearty Miles City welcome.

IPA on-tap from Beaver Creek Brewery of Glendive tonight.
