I've had an inquiry about the trial of Wildcat Williams. Mom says early 50's and my Dad went to the trial for entertainment. Anyone have a better date than that? Remember what she was charged with specifically? The inquiry said murder but I think that is wrong.

Very helpful. Still could use a specific date, though.

Amorette,
Trial was in December 1951 started on 3rd. There are quite a few articles in Billings Gazette.
There was a 15 yr old boy Bungard that was part of the crime & gave details to law enforcement but not arrested because he was under 16. Mr. Donges, Evelyn's husband, was soldier in Korea at the time. Testimony by Bungard says Evelyn lured their intended robbery victim into the alley where the two boys beat him up & robbed him. The victim later died of his injuries.

Sept 20, 1951 Victoria Advocate- Texas
Article saying the three 16yrs on run from Montana had been given a ride & later spotted by law enforcement. Tommy LaFave, Evelyn Williams, & Lillian Hirsch wanted for robbery & murder committed in Miles City.

Billings Gazette Sept 26, 1951
Arrests made. Sept 23 in Colorado Springs.
Evelyn listed as Mrs Michael Donges nee Evelyn Williams.

Billings Gazette Dec 13, 1951
Life sentences in prison for Evelyn Donges & Tom LaFave both 17.

At Montana Historical Society
in the Attorney General's Office Records 1893-1969
Collection # RS76
Box 102 Folder 86
Docket #8 Case #41
Montana v Evelyn Donges, Tom LaFave
(regarding murder by 16 year olds in Miles City) 1952

My dad and mother were responsible for returning the Williams girl and the La Fave boy to MC from TX, I believe, where they were caught. Dad was the under sheriff at that time. He needed a matron for the lengthy trip so Mom was chosen, as no female officer was available at that time. Never a problem with the pair the entire trip. Ran into a problem in Denver while eating as some enterprising reporter got wind of their significance and tried to take photos. Dad had to take the reporter's film since they were under age. This was in 1951.
